Detroit soft locker

Postby shooter114 on Mon, 14 Sep 2015 1:38 +0000

Anyone used the detroit soft locker? not the old style detroit or any other auto locker. Interested to see how the new style handles in the rear of a dual cab hilux !

I've fitted a few into Isuzu trucks
Personal wouldn't use it a d/d
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

I've got a Detroit Locker in my KUN26R had one in my HJ47 for over 25 yrs as well. Once you get used to a few little quirks you will be hooked. On road and off road handling are amazing. Go see Opposite Lock at Rockdale. Gordon is the man to talk to, top bloke.
No I didn't... :D :D :D

Are both of these the detroit softlockers ? ( not LSD true trac or the older style detroit auto locker ) I've read a heap of reviews and it seems that SWB vehicles like the jeep suffer with the engagement/disengagement causing them to lurch etc where as long vehicles like the the US trucks - F250 etc especially with Auto's are hardly noticed on the road. However there is also a bit of confusion between the detroit auto locker and the detroit soft auto locker.

What was the configurations like on the above vehicles ? dual cab single, tray back canopy etc ? For the price from the US if they are going to suit my needs then it'll make it a heap cheaper than a rear E locker and may even be able to get a true trac for the front aswell whilst still be cheaper than the E locker.

And final question is how did they cope with unsealed roads corrugations etc ? Was there a lot of engagement/disengagement ?
