5le power options

Postby gutlux11 on Sun, 05 Jul 2015 6:21 +0000

Hey all,
Ive got a 2001 single cab, that ive found to lacking heavily in the power department!
I was wondering what options i have, and for what sort of price. Ive looked into both an aftermarket turbo and an ecotec upgrsde, but im just curious about if im missing anythig obvious.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Probably the easiest upgrade, sell it and get a newer vehicle mate.

But, I had a ute, same year model, I put a Denco Diesel aftermarket turbo kit on, and had them tune the fuel pump as well and an exhaust system, it made a considerable difference, if I was to go further, I would of added an intercooler.

I think DTS do a complete kit with an intercooler, turbo and exhaust, but instead of tuning the ute, they use a chip module.

The cheaper option would be going with extractors, snorkel and 2.5" exhaust system. Other than that, you're looking at an aftermarket turbo like a DTS or Denco kit. Keep in mind, you will also need the chip to increase the amount of fuel for the turbo.

I agree with Jacko9. The intercooler is definitely ideal to keep EGT temps down.

I don't know that the extractors and exhaust would offer a good value for money would they piper? I somewhat look at a return on my money when I do a mod, I would just save, and go straight to an aftermarket turbo of some description. I also had a Safari Snorkel. I was really happy with Denco Diesel, as they were able to tune the fuel pump and efi correctly to individually suit my ute, but seeing as you are in WA, that won't really be an option, the DTS kit, might be a better option!

I had UFI supply and install my DTS turbo kit on my LN167 5LE Hilux. These goes don't mess around and know what they're doing so I'd recommend UFI.

The dyno report said I made 101HP at the wheels with the turbo on. Now I run a 2.5" straight through exhaust with no muffler.

Ive currently got a snorkel and 2.5 inch exhaust. I think the turbo kit will be the way to go when i get the money
