2012-13 tail lights fit 2009?

Postby andyroo54 on Wed, 25 Sep 2013 9:33 +0000

Hi,

One of my tail lights has a leak in it and it fills up with moisture so I want to replace it. Just wondering if the new design lights from 2012-13 model fit the older 2009 tub?

Thanks,

Are the wiring harnesses the same? As in will the 2006-2011 build sockets twist into the 2011-2014 housing? Thanks

Same shape lights but you have to change the wiring harness for the tail light I think! So when u buy them make sure you get the wiring. You ll work it out. I'm wanting to do it just waiting on money. My mate did it on his!

My ute I had to swap the sockets for the blinkers. In the 2009 tail light the blinkers are just normal white bulbs which appear orange because the tail light has an orange lens. But in the 2013 tail light it is clear lens so it needs to use an orange bulb.

This orange bulb has a different socket than the standard white bulbs. It's just the placement of the little knobs that hold it in the socket when you twist it in.

So I did use the existing harness however I had to cut off the orange bulb blinker sockets and re join them to the existing harness.

Alternatively you could cut the entire harness off and swap it with the new 2013 harness but I figured it would be less work just to swap the blinker sockets.

So given this you might want to get the tail lights with the harness.

To be honest I'm not sure what year mine is because it says 2008 on the registration but I'm pretty sure it's a 2009 MY. Not sure if I can tell on the VIN or something.

Dont expect them to be any better that the 09 lights. My 2012 OEM ones have taken on water

But for the sake of upgrading while needing new ones , why not.

Hi all - just wanted to confirm, are all tail lights and harnesses compatible from 2005 to 2015?

I have a 2006 'Lux and need new rear lights. I still have the original lights including the original harnesses. I can get lights from the 2015 models but without the harness.

  1. Can I just use my 2006 harness with the 2015 lights?
  2. If I bought 2015 lights with harnesses included, is it just plug-and-play?
Thanks!
