scam or deal of the century ???

Postby bj4x4 on Sat, 14 Sep 2013 9:56 +0000

I got this email last night about a car i inquired about on gumtree for a price ($14000) that seemed pretty unbelievable. Im 90% sure its a scam but the fact he's allowing me to see the car is odd for a scam. If he asks for paypal then this will confirm its a scam.

Email-The car is in perfect condition, without faults or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage, without engine problems, no hidden defects, the car has not suffered damage and there is no money owing and no write-off on the car. The 2010 Toyota Hilux KUN26R SR5 MY10 has 79,000 Kms, was garage kept and comes with rego until 4 Nov 2013 and RWC. I am in London, United Kingdom since 2 weeks now because I just signed a 5 years contract with a company here.
Before leaving to London I prepared the shipping for my 2010 Toyota Hilux and the ford(my wife's car) to get them here with me (because people here are using right hand drive cars like in Australia). Anyway I just realize the import and registration taxes for non-european vehicles are huge. So I better sell them in Australia. The ford sold 6 days ago and the Hilux is still available.
I paused the shipping just in time and the Hilux is still on australian territory. The shipping company can't refund me because the shipping already started but I can change the delivery address with yours and the car will be shipped free to your location. I will give you 5 days inspection period for your peace of mind to perform an on-road test and check the mechanical condition of the car.
If that's OK with you we can talk about the payment details. I attached you the car pictures

Tell me what ya think, and if it turns out to be a scam i think i might play along for abit haha.

Cheers,
Matt

Scam mate,

Never pay for items before you can take them, unless you have insurance ie paypal.

If he wanted to get ride of the car would have taken it to a dealership.

If it looks like s**t and smells like s**t it IS s**t.

String em along for a bit.

Wife had one recently one Facebook where i guy in the local area was advertising tea cup chihuahua for adoption. Sent message and got this long email back, with long winded excuses and reasons and clearly written by someone who had English as a second language.

I replied for her and told the "guy" I believed he was a scam and that his profile was reported to Facebook and any further contact would be passed on to Police. Heard nothing back and suddenly the posts all disappeared.

Could get 30k at a dealership no questions asked, I just paid 37k for a 2009 with the lot.

Report the bastards. Ask details of who the vehicle is registered to so you can confirm ownership, even better ask for his phone number so you can hear the scamming Punjabi voice on the phone... These pricks make me fkn angry

If in doubt about anything which looks/smells like a scam go to the Australian Govt website 'Scam Watch'

I believe this ad may fall under the below scam:

Hey mate,
The wording, type of arrangement, 5 days inspection and shipping crap is the exact same as an add for a Harley that a mate almost went for. Luckily enough he decided at the last minute not to transfer. Real people aren't stupid enough to think selling it that low will make it go quicker than putting it 5k under or selling to a dealer.
Absolute scam,
Cheers
