From what I have read I'd say e-lockers are the go. I'm surprised arb hasnt seen this and maybe moved away from the air operated setup

I have had the ARB air lockers for 3 years now and have been fine although I have heard others having issues, have not heard any experinces about the E lockers

BTW and a bot offtopic but Toyota factory lockers on the Cruisers are Vacuum actuated

Air Lockers are my choice. Never had an issue

Like anything, most of the problems that you hear about usually result from incorrect installation.

As a 4wder, you need an air compressor anyway.... may as well get the most out of it

I've got Elockers in mine. Didn't want to mount an air compressor just to switch a locker on and off (already have a good compressor for tyre duties) ... and i like the idea of electronically operated diff mechanism.

Both will be good mate.

YES Rod we know :?
The reason I would purchase them if I did a build again is the name behind them, Eaton Fuller- have a great reputation in the gearing industry. For me it makes good sense that they would be capable of making a relatively simple diff lock in comparison to some of the other gear they make, such as the Road Ranger gear box.

I think you've had nothing but issues with that 4wdrive

Simple way i looked at was: -

You can rip a air line, no locker, compressor break, no locker

Elocker even if you lose your power, you could wire the locker direct to the battery and the locker will work.

iirc, you can also buy the elocker in a version which is permanently locked, but uses power to unlock

might be a good option for those who spend their lives offroad

Ahh, the good ol Road Ranger, learnt to drive on one of those, the proper ones too, no clutch and none of the syncro bullshit that's in the new ones.... ;)

For the record, it was a 3070 Acco, Cummins VT903 (370hp), 15 speed Overdrive Road Ranger, 44,000lb 2 speed Eaton Diffs.

aaaaah those were the days. Picked up my UD PKA45 290hp 15 speed R/R from Lansvale never driven a road ranger box must have seriously clogged the Hume Highway that afternoon as I crunched and ground every gear out to Razorback. Couple of days later changing like a pro....that's professional not the alternative. Did me well for 5 years never gave me a problem

   I can seriously relate to that   . We've had a couple of R/R for many years and never had any troubles with them either, same with the Eaton diffs (although at first we were sceptical in moving away form Rockwell). If Eaton can make stuff to put up with that type of punishment, then as you said earlier, a locker in a Hilux should be a piece of cake.

I have just ordered a rear eaton for reliability reasons. My mate has twin ARBs about 6 months old and the air lines are already problematic.
The only advantages that I could see re ARB were (1) current deal on at the moment which means you get compressor for free. This makes the cost of eaton and arb about equal; and (2) if you wanted a second, the incremental cost of a second ARB locker would be cheaper.

i went arb air locker just coz i didn't know much about elocker or how proven it was. My air locker has been faultless, but still I'd prefer a simple all electric system, probably give elocker a try next time.
