Starting Problems KZN165R

Postby Lucasss on Sun, 07 Aug 2011 6:13 +0000

Up the farm for the weekend and couldn't get the farm Hilux to start its a KZN165R 3.0lt turbo.
Seems to not be getting fuel on start, changed the filter still no good.
Had to bite the bullet and use aerostart then it starts otherwise roll starting seemed to work.

have you tried manually pumping the fuel, see if that works or if the pump does firm up

Its not the glow plugs is it, especially being colder this time of the year, check the fuses etc, my old hilux a 2.4 once had trouble getting started and it was a fuse for the glow plugs. Just and idea/

The hand pump on the filter doesn't seem to get firm.
Glow plugs i assume if the glow plugs were stuffed it would pump out white smoke before kicking over that does not happen so that is why i reckon it is a fuel issue.
Thanks for you help guys

Ok thanks will look into it next time im up there. Had a lot of trouble with fuel cause the when they delivered fuel to the farm they didn't get me alpine fuel for winter and at 1200m above sea level we really need it.
Changed the filter already. Lucky its not my daily driver.

if all of the above fails check your compression at the cylinders (leak down test i think its called?)... Ive had bad luck in past.
