Air locker or E-locker

General discussion of basically anything related to the 1988 - 2005 Hilux

I'd go rear first since the LSD in Toyota usually sucks from my own experience and from others. I have a rear ARB air locker in my 2000 LN167 hilux.

I would recommend the e locker, I have one and it is great and trouble free, I'm sure others have had the same experience with other types/brands.

Also, I would recommend getting the rear if only one, not saying it will perform better but it is easy to use, you can turn it on whenever you think you may need it and it won't really affect drivability, say at the bottom of a big climb with a few turns, some hard surfaces etc... you don't have to be as careful with where to use it. In my old 4wd where I had both, i found i rarely used the front. Again, others will have a different story.

I had Air Lockers in the past in the Patrol. This time have gone the E-Lockers. Happier with E-Lockers. Will be my preference from now on. Was not happy with the installation of the front-locker (Bundoora Vic) . Would recommend Harrop to do install if you are in Victoria.

I did not know harrop installed their products but handy to know. Currently waiting on my 4.11s from monster rides to come in then I will be getting them installed with a front e locker (rear already auto-locked). Can u recommend anywhere local? I'm located in Watsonia

I got my air locker when they had a good deal going at ARB, I needed a compressor anyway so the Air locker seemed like a good way to go... only had rear done so far, will get the front one when the next good deal comes around I reckon :D

Rear locker and Compressor with inflation kit was $1705 installed on the promo, so I saved $530 based on current pricing. It's worth waiting for deals if you can.

I prefer air lockers, but personally I think you'd be happy with e-lockers or air lockers, all lockers are good lockers :D I think what didn't appeal to me about e-lockers is that they required the diff housing to be ground out a bit to fit, and the whole go with what you know thing.

Hi guys,
I'm new here.

Just wondering if people had a choice between instaling E-lockers in either front or rear which would you do first?

Cheers

this is what I've recently changed to. I miss the positive traction compared to my previous rear autolocker. but onroad it is so much better.

ive got front and rear elockers, bought off opposite lock here and installed by a local diff guy that has an awesome reputation, i cant fault them they work awesomely. in regards to front vs rear, id go rear as thats what i mostly use and will get you a fair way but the front will get you even further (or further in to trouble).
if its in your budget and want to get pretty well everywhere get both
