Very nice Jake, the 285s have nice deep and wide tread voids. Should be great the mud :D

Cleaned up my front end a bit...
Painted Sahara bar hoop, Replaced my alloy Fairlead with one of those offset plastic ones, it is better in so many ways! and bolted on a 22inch LED bar :D :D

Best thing about the Sahara bar is it's a great ledge to put your tools and beers when working... ;)

Postby jakelux on Fri, 14 Oct 2011 6:13 +0000

She went pretty well on a few tracks on the weekend and on the highway very surprised how quiet and smooth the Kumho's are.
Didn't seem to have any rubbing at all but is very close to bottom of flare on full lock and under compression, will trim a bit more off with the blade and try to get my mudflaps back on.
To get the most out of the lux offroad i will deffinatley re-gear her... prob to 4.1 ratio's. I can't see how you could have a manual running 33's and not do it to be honest.. especially in the V6

Heavy duty clutch arrived today thanks to Ultimate :D
This is the 4 Terrain from clutch industries and Brendan (Ultimate) says I will be the first to put this new revised unit in a V6 Lux... so hope all goes well :)
After killing 2 Toyota clutches in 3 years (used to tow alot!) I'm hoping this one lasts awhile
Gettin it installed mid next week.

Trimmed a bit more out of the inside front flares and made some small mud flaps from 3mm rubber to cover up the hack job

Looks like they are delivering them in wooden boxes again. They would be handy. Pissed off that both my clutches were delivered in crushed cardboard boxes. They are tough clutches though. You might find that your gearbox breaks before your new 4 Terrain clutch.

Jake,

First off nice rig.

Have to say I have the same issue with the rear of my Hilux with the OME HD springs from ARB, and frankly I want to keep it legal for work reasons so have changed the front springs to King HD101's and not going beyond 2-2.5 inch of lift, so now I think I will remove the rear leaf. Assuming you removed one of the load springs? You mentioned 3rd spring, is that from the top, as that would not be load spring?? How did you remove yours, take the whole lot out and remove spring and refit?

Also, what size rim and offset did you have those 32/11.5 Buckshots on??

Thanks
Neill

Yep took out 3rd from top spring.. pretty sure it is the load spring but whatever it is made a hell of a difference, lost a fair bit of lift but the ride is more springy and still firm enough. Yeah mate did it at home in the driveway.

In red is the spring i removed..
Image

When i had the Bighorns they where wrapped around 15x7 CSA ranger rims positive 10, not a legal width or legal load rated rim but neither is a 32x11.5 bighorn on a lux ;) never had one prob with it though... down to 16PSI on the dunes never popped a tyre off rim... sure did bag out well with a 11.5 inch tyre on a 7 inch rim

Thanks Pete, All a part of the de-chroming phase, gonna paint the chequerplate on ARB steps also :)
Drove around for a few days with the Sahara bar loop off, looked OK from the front, but side on just accentuated how much that bar sticks out :o

Re: JAKES V6 - HD clutch is in!

Postby jakelux on Sat, 12 Nov 2011 5:59 +0000

New 4 Terrain Clutch from Ultimate went in during the week, first impression was.. What the F$#k!!
This is a very tuff and grippy clutch, still trying to get used to it... almost like learning to drive again!! :o
Through the gears and at high speeds it feels great, no unusual vibrations or sounds at all.
Its starting off from the stand still thats a bit of a worry, you cannot ride the clutch at all this sucker just grips and you end up hoping down the street like snoop in a cadillac!! I think i was just so used of my last POS clutch which i had to ride to get moving. With this from the stand still you almost have to just drop the clutch and floor it :P
I have found myself turning off the sprint booster because this clutch is sooo responsive.
Not sure yet if i love it or hate it  Haven't been offroad yet so i think that will be the real tester for it on some steep hill starts and climbing some rocky steps etc.
