Loads of tracks you can do in a stock rig mate, Blue rag range could be done in a Captiva or other AWD type thing.

Trip looks awesome mate, esp that camping spot!
The coolant boiling wouldn't have been fun at all.
Cheers,
Jay

Hey mate just looked over your whole build from the get go which has been some very top work from your part, just wondering how you went with the 4 terrain clutch have you still got it and if so how is it running?
thanks mate

Hi thanks for reading through... it is pretty long and a has been through a lot!... (the rig that is..)

Mate the 4 terrain clutch is something else! took a few months to get used to it, but I absolutely love it, a couple years on and it has not skipped a beat... a very strong unit, the way it grabs it feels like it would rip apart a gearbox before the thing actually slipped..... You've looked through my build so you can testify the the thing actually gets f$$kin used not like a lot of others out there.
I would recommend it but not for the faint hearted and not if your rig is stop start in the city 90% of its life.

Good luck :D

Killed another set of rear wheel bearings.. I learnt from my last lesson and put in all new genuine bearings, seals and ABS collars at all 4 sides.
Fitted out the canopy with draws and slides, kept it pretty basic but now everything has its place and is working pretty well...

Real world testing..

Put a couple big eyelets in the budsbar to hang a few meters of winch cable on so its easier to get at when bogged down..

Shouldn't be long now. Just waiting on payday to get my new tyres and waiting on MR to get Axis compatible recovery points (only have one tie-down hook if I get stuck :? ). Then I'll be cruising straight back out again. Been hanging to get out!

X2 on the 4terrain too. It's so responsive, the second you start lifting your foot off the clutch, the thing wants to take off.

Canopy's come along great too by the way.
Cheers,
Jay

Cool, give me a PM when your ready.. I'm out bush every second weekend or so.

Can't you use buds or all terrain recovery points on Axis bar?

Will do. Didn't know buds made 'em? Might look at the all terrains, if they fit with it then might be sweet. Matty from MR said they'd be ready 6-8 weeks, bout 8 weeks ago, so hoping he releases them soon. Lost a little confidence after the last incident so want the points to put my mind at rest.

That could be an option, went well last time...

Sweet, will check those out. They look smick. Two of those bolts are where the support bracket on the Axis bar would be though. Might give one of 'em a buzz shortly.
Cheers,
Jay

Re: JAKES Tough Tourer - zorst mods

Postby jakelux on Sat, 17 May 2014 2:47 +0000

One of those things I've been wanting to do for a while..
The old MR exhaust has copped a flogging over the past 12 months, cracked welds, dents, pushed in muffler, squashed and pierced resonator. So pulled it all out to modify.
Replaced everything from Y section to rear, new 2.5 inch pipe, new stainless steel muffler, new flanges, new gaskets, new stainless bolts, all new hangers that wrap under and support the pipe not just welded to one side. grinded about 3mm off right hand cat flange as it never lined up properly and always leaked. Spaced out before Y section as that never lined up properly and was under too much stress.
Was a lot of work and fiddling around but well worth it.
Sounds a bit quieter and a crisper sound than before.

New Stainless steel Magnaflow muffler, very expensive unit but has lap jointed weld so no cracking at joints like my old Hurricane one did numerous times. Very good ground clearance to being quiet a slimeline unit.

Wrap around hangers to avoid movement rather than on one side..

This is how much the pipe before Y section needed to be spaced out to avoid it being under stress

Very happy with it, gonna add one more hanger before muffler welded to chassis for a bit more strength.

New rear suspension going in the next couple weeks.. :D

Just put new suspension in the rear.
Ultimate medium leaf pack, Ultimate long travel shocks, extended bumpstops, new u bolts, new bush kit, Buds extended shackles, extended braided brake line.
Feels great, heaps firmer with all the weight i have on the back, gained a couple inches back in height.
Can't fault the ARB setup i had in the rear for 4 years, but was inverted and not rated for all the weight i have now re: canopy and RTT.

Gave it a good breaking in up the High country:
