x2. Looks awesome, lucky you got that out quicker than the tide, that woulda been scary as all shit!

The red flag part of the requirements to go with the permit?
Cheers,
Jay

Yeah Dune buggy club use flags so you see them coming over dunes before you have head on. Man those things are awesome.. 2 wheel drive low as heck, thin little tyres and they go everywhere!!

cool on the outside... stressin on the inside... 8psi in tyres, treads (like maxtrax) low second and about 5000rpm just got me through... Was always gonna get through though, still had option of buring the spare to winch off it (and ditching the mrs & kids for less weight  ). Was a Disco few hundred metres behind me but he wouldnt of made it to where i was.

Great photos mate. Your truck looks awesome.

I still stress out everytime I'm on the beach. Seen way too many vehicles get lost.

My advice.. Go for it mate, they are a bloody solid engine with a much cheaper secondhand purchase price than the 1KD.
Keep the oil, fuel and air filters clean and keep her from overheating. (flush out radiator condensor after mud runs and dont obstruct the grill with big lights).
If you want to do big long distance desert trips forget it as you wont be able to carry enough fuel... like most petrol fourbys.
PM me if you have some specific questions... :D

Bloody awesome read mate, some really handy tips in there aswell. I've got a real urge to start making my own under guards, rear canopy etc.

The best part is the fact you have done it all running a 2" lift. Which has been something bothering me as i want to run 285/75/16 on my current ulitmate 2" lift, thinking i would have to a body lift or something to do so. Think i just need to find some patrol rims and some small amount of bodywork.

Cheers for the effort.

Cheers Scotsman!
I've got it set up pretty well for the 4 of us to tour in but its tight.. all bedding fits inbetween 2 baby seats and on back floor. All cooking stuff, food and esky is on passenger side of canopy (in draws and compartments). Right side of canopy is open and houses big loose items: Chairs, big duffle bag of cloths, kids toys and crap, tool bag and random crap. All the recovery gear and spare parts are in 2 undertray boxes (amazing how much i can jam into them) 45 litre water tank under tray, RTT up top and fishing gear on roof racks... happy days
80% of stuff is always in there ready to go at any time... just need to pack clothes, pick up food and beer and we're off!!

Cheers mate!
The 285's was easy on a 2 inch lift... the 305's on there now where the challenge!!

Finally mounted the spare on the back..
Its in the way when i open up the RTT but will just have it mounted there for those harder low range day trips when the spare underneath gets hung up on everything.
Might make a swingaway for it in the future.

Not much new with the lux except it getting used and abused the last 3 months, couple of High country overnighters, few local daytrips and 3 trips to Tassie!
Time for a bit of TLC so canopy is off for some modifying and repairs.
Gonna mod the tray a bit more.. Lift it up 50mm and out from the cab 50mm so i can fit my water tank between the cab and head board, new folded mud guards, new rear tail light section and full clean and re-spray..

Nah not a real big job Jay, just tinker around in the shed at night for a couple weeks... More of an excuse to go in my shed and drink beers..
Just a few things on the tray that bug me.
Not gonna do much to the canopy.. Fix some cracked welds, broken hinges and the big dent in gullwing door..
Let me know when u wanna come for a wheel..
