G'day Jake

Mate I recall you mentioning in the past that you have put a new clutch in your ute. Did you stick with a Toyota part, or go the way of a Safari Tuff clutch or something..?? Now I have put the 32's on my bus the old clutch is starting to struggle on hill starts a bit. I have searched a bit, but most posts seem to be in relation to diesel utes not the V6 option.........

I will be really keen to see how your rear bar mods come up mate. When I put my rear bar on, I looked at how I could modify it if I did a body lift, and didn't really quite come up with an answer. So will be keen to see your solution mate.

Cheers

Hey Murf,
I went with the Toyota clutch but only because they covered it under warranty (with ALOT of debate!!)
Yeah and the problem is the bloody tall gearing in the V6, especialy with 32's. My next tyres will be 33's so i will be re gearing the Lux.

Yeah not sure how the f#@k im gonna mod that ARB bar the way it wraps around the bottom of the chasis rail is different... Got a few ideas and a mate who is a gun of a welder so thats a start i guess?! Gonna take it off in the next couple weeks and nut it out.

When we goin for a fourby?? Bit short notice but a few of us are doin the East West trail behind mount Wellington on Easter weekend, so come down if your free...

Mate we will definetly have to catch up for a 4by trip. Your Easter trip sounds like it will be good. Unfortunally I have drawn the unlucky straw to work over Easter. You will have to let me know if you are ever interested in heading down west to sandy cape way or somewhere for a look, and I could show you around a bit.

I am always keen to hang out with a fellow "Saints" supporter :D

Spent a good hour under the lux today trying to nut out my plan of attack for lifting my rear ARB bar.. F#$k that thing is mounted strong!!
Looks like i can gain about 100 - 120mm clearence by cutting it and re welding the 50x100 box section up higher but keeping the mounting brackets where they already are on the chasis. it may lose a little strength but i can fix that with some chunky braces on a 45 degree angle.
so i will cut about 120mm off the rear 1/4 panel, which isn't as much as most people are chopping off but seems to be as much as i can do without having a gap between the bar and body.
I will retain the 60mm tube that raps around the sides of the bar and this will get lifted aswell. Only thing with this is the tube finishes just before the flare so I'm contemplating leaving the flare at full length?? not sure how this will look but i can always cut it off later if it doesn't work..

Did a rough job on paint to give an idea of how it should look (It's no MMAAXX paint job but u get the idea  )
Image
Doing this should only bring my departure angle back to factory spec. These are a great bar but anyone who has one and uses it off road knows they get hung up on everything!!

Mate when you nut this one out let me know. :)

I have stared at that rear bar many of time trying to work out how to lift it if I did a body lift, and I haven't had any luck yet..... Have you thought about going the body lift option mate? I submitted an application to Transport Tas and they didn't have an issue with a body lift for my hilux(even with airbags). If I only went 50mm body lift with no further mods, it didn't even require inspection, they would approve just on the application...... Bit of a different story now I have done suspension.

They told me I would be able to have 50mm body lift, 50mm suspension, and 31 inch tyres fully approved and mod plated. The only bugger is the 265x75x16's are just outside the 50mm allowable tyre size increase (damm it). Also the 0 offset wheels are past the 25mm allowable wheel track increase as well ...

Keep the updates coming matey...

cheers

Re: JAKES HILUX - Trip Pics

Postby jakelux on Mon, 25 Apr 2011 7:53 +0000

Went for a day trip yesterday through the Wellington ranges around the back of Mt Wellington. Track starts about 30 minutes out of Hobart and winds up the rocky hills to about 1100 Meters above sea level and yes it was cold about 4 degress!!
My softer rear suspension felt great, but the rear having lost about 2 inch of clearence was getting hung up quite a bit.. the chop will fix that

Re: JAKES HILUX - Exhaust Porn

Postby jakelux on Sat, 30 Apr 2011 6:54 +0000

Installed my new MR exhaust and headers today :D :D :D
Image
Image
Image
The ceramic coating on these headers is so sweet, just look how crappy the stocker looks
Image
After a good 4 hours i finally got the old exhaust and headers out, Nearlly all the nuts where seized up or coroded, had to grind most of 'em off.
Image
This is my favorite part of the exhaust, V6 owners will know how low the stock hangs down below the transfer.
Image
Very fiddely getting the headers in and out especially on the passenger side. I did this all on my garage floor
with a jack and stands.. its do-able but a hoist would be sooo much quicker.
Image

Went for a quick run this evening down to the shop, first impression.... DAM!!! sounds very nice and the extra oomph is noticeable, 2nd to 3rd gear roared at very high revs :o
Check engine light is on but hopeing this is just one of the o2 sensors that i haven't clicked back in properlly.. might need to extend a couple of 'em as the wires are stretched to there absolute limit...
Goin for a run up the bush tomorrow so will open her up

Most Auto shops have some form of elastic cargo or tie down netting. I just modified it a bit as it was a bit big..
