Micks Blulux More Rekon

Postby 2010Blulux on Sun, 17 Apr 2011 2:28 +0000

Hooked back in to the front end this morning in an effort to get the swaybar spacers to fit. I figured that I'd just had too many beers yesterday. Turns out that wasn't the case. I was having trouble with the swaybar hitting the drivers side radiator support bracket preventing it from rotating enough for all the holes in the clamp/brackets to line up at once. To confirm this I removed the drivers side support and everything fell into place beautifully. So I bolted it back up finger tight and marked it for some cutting. I as pretty stoked because this is the first chance I've had to take to my new truck with a grinder, its lasted the longest of anything I've ever owned before.

Image
Bracket marked for a little love

Image
Trimmed and painted. I think I will take a bit more off and weld it back up again when I get my mig back from repairs but for now I just trimmed it back so far as to leave a few mm of weld behind

Image
I bolted back up again and still didn't have quite enough so I slipped in 2 washers underneath per bolt hole and this gave me some clearance, it's not heaps maybe 4 or 5 mm but its enough for it not to touch. You can just see were a got angry and ground some more off taking the weld with it. I'll tidy this up next break I did both brackets so that the bash plates would bolt up even again.

All this gear looks nearly as good as it works

Also fitted up the rear shocks today too

Comparison shot. Up close you can see they are of heaps better built quality than the OEM gear

Went for a bit of a test run this arvo. So fr all seems good, nothings fallen off or broken and no dodgy sounds. It drives 100% better than before on and off road, really smooth and responsive. I cant wait to rack some more off road Ks.

This little jump up was a pain in the ass, it wasn't a terrably difficult bit of dirt, but a huge rock behind me and that tree to the right made it a bit of a mission to get on the good line.

I think this one wins shot of the day

I threw this one in for a bit of a comparison. Its come along way in the last 6 months. This is about 10 metres further up the track from the one before.

I've got to finish fitting up the second battery, Couple of Jerry can holders, and the snorkel should go on tomorow. After that things will grind to a halt till after the simmo trip and the wedding

Ok, ok... Hows it going?

Im ordering all this kit real soon... Just got a nice set of wheels and tyres and now need Rekon...

820mm is a full 130mm over the 690mm standard height... That would be about 5 inches.

My rear end with OME fitted leaves is only 810mm. I asked Matt about remachining to drop to a 2" standard lift.

Did Matt sort the spring rate and length specifically for your truck? Ive got a ARB Sahara bar, dual batts and a 9.5XP winch... So need to take that into account when ordering spring rates.

Looks awesome... Enjoy.

I just told him what I had and he sent me the gear. Too easy. It has settled to about 805 now from bottom of rim to flare or 605 from centre of rim to flare.

Finally got around to fitting up the snorkel last break, Only a couple of small hiccups.

Started by removing the drivers side flare, the little clips for the flare and the inner guard are both a pain in the a$s. Threw on the template and marked all the holes. I didn't really want to go out and spend $70+ on a 108mm holesaw just for this job. So I just marked centre of the large hole, Centre popped it and traced it out with my verniers leaving a scribe line on the tape.

Image
all marked out

Then I measured in 6mm from the edge and drilled 5 10mm holes so I can get the jigsaw blade in there.

5 studs with a dab of 262 each. One of these castings to retain the studs is a but bulged (the one just blocked by the intake flange) leaving a bit of a gap between the front of the snorkel. I tried to heat it up with the misso's hair dryer and push it in with no luck, so I just attacked it with a course file and brought it down a few mm. It seemed to help a little, but with the hole lot all fitted up and the flare back in place you can hardly notice it.

I cant seem to find the rest of the pics, I'll whack the rest up when I get home next week.
