As Ross requested here are some pics and info on my jack up legs. At full height they are 1300mm from base to top of leg. Thats not to the top of of my bracket. That gives me an extra 175mm of lift and I use every bit of it.

This pic below shows them fully packed down. As you can see they pack down in 2 stages. Packed up they are 600mm I think with my bracket off.

This one is showing how my bracket works. Ive made them so they are removable and more compact so they fit in tighter spots. They are really quick to put on or off because I only ever do the nuts up finger tight. When we went on our 3 month trip the other year I had them on the floor where the back seat is. It all fits in there and only about 80mm off the floor.

hey Chris, how's the weight of your legs? The ones I'm looking at weigh more than the canopy!

Legs with bracket is 16.3kg. They are way stronger than they need to be but I couldn't find anything lighter. They are rated at 1500kg each.

Smae legs as mine. They are pretty heavy bit at least youre not going to wake up in an expensive swag.

Yeah because they are so heavy duty they are pretty stable. I just lower it down to about half the total lift. Makes it more stable and means Jen can nearly reach the kitchen.

thx Chris. The legs I was looking at are substantially heavier, so I might go back and question the builder about them

Hey Chris. I haven't weighed mine yet but will talk to the manufacturer to get some precise weights and rated capacity read somewhere that mine are rated for 2000kg each and weigh about 14.76kg.

Yeah mate that would be interesting. I was supplied with legs with the canopy but they were too short and wouldn't reach the ground. I told them to keep them and got the money back. They didn't pack up as compact either being a single stage lift. These ended up costing me the same as the ones they had so I was happy.

Yeah dono how we are going to do it yet. We only used the roof top tent 3 or 4 times last year so thought I would leave it off and put it on when we need it and I always take the canopy off for weekend 4wd trips because its easier and safer anyway. We are heading on a week and a half trip in a couple weeks up the Darling River and Jen recons she wants to try simplifying our setup a bit. So at the moment its going to be a double swag and hopefully if I get enough time a new and improved awning setup. The one I had on there worked well but wasnt perfect.

The other thing is having the tent on is a pain for work. I'm going to build a new rack to go on the roof of the canopy so I can carry timber and stuff up there.

fyi, we've pretty much dropped the idea of a RTT. They're convenient, but they big and heavy too. We wanna keep the weight down as much as possible

FWIW I have a tent fettish and have a number of them in my garage, tents that is. I like the RTT which I dont own yet but they have there purpose. As does the OZ tent RV5 great spacious independant and reasonably quick. I also have a Malamoo quick and easy for 2 people on the side of the road camping( recommended by Alby). For myself and the boys we have swags. For destination trips with the tribe I have a huge 3 bedroom dome tent. Different tents for different trips, cant have too many
Like the wheels Chris its amazing what a bit of offset can do for the overall look of a vehicle. Being that they appear in good nick I dont mind the silver.
