Well it's been a while since I posted anything new in here so here's a few photos of a recent trip, photos are just off the phone so they might not be the best quality.

Yer pretty happy with how im aging except a few health issues, constantly crapping myself and dribbling :(

Loving the roof top tent and awning. That is until it come time to go for drive somewhere having to pack up and unpack when I get back. Hopefully before I take it out again i'll build something that I can jack off and leave it all behind all set up. Most likely a sealed canopy and have the root top tent sit a fair bit lower then it does, make it easier to set up/ pack up and also make for better driving keeping it out of the wind. :)

Tent is ment to weigh 38kgs but the guy who had it before me added a sheet of stuff on the under for strength adding a couple of kgs, then add my roof rack, about 8 or so kgs plus the awning weighs about 17kgs. All adds up to a bit of weight hanging up there, ute still handles ok.

Looking good Mitch, How do you find getting in and out of the roof top tent with the little one?

Not bad putting the little one up there, lucky I'm tall though! Be better once I lower it 10 or 12 inchs with the new canopy once I get motivated.

As for giving the ute some balls I'm already onto it, have it all sorted in the coming weeks, fitting a 6.2 litre v8 diesel followed by a SAS by buddy, once that's all finished I'm taking 12 months off work to travel around, drink and look at boobs  oh wait that's what I had wet dreams about last night

But until I win lotto to be to do that I'll just fit a humex 3 inch and what ever chip it wants to suggest. And depends on what ultimate comes up with brakes I might upgrade those aswell.

Once I pay for all that I'll probably be eating baked beans and toast for breakfast lunch and tea for a while

Mitch's build, canopy built

Postby amitch888 on Sat, 30 Apr 2011 11:03 +0000

I borrowed a few ideas off others on here to build the canopy. Its build to sit a tad lower then the roof line so once the rooftop tent is bolted on its not up to high, doesnt catch the wind as easy and its way easier to pack up the tent being lower down, hated doing it before having to climb up to do everything.

It has a point on each corner that I will make some jacks to go into so its easier to take off and on the odd occassion if I want to I can jack it up leaving the awning and RRT set up and drive away. Canopy will have its own floor so everything can stay in there. When its not in use this will be handy because I can just leave all the camping gear in there ready for next time.

Whats left to do is build some sort of storage system inside, still have to give this one some thought on how to go about it, might see if I can mount a spare wheel on the rear somewhere, still have to sort out some lighting both inside and outside the canopy, build the jacks to take it off with and might have to give the alloy sheeting a paint job so its not so reflective on other drivers! Still heaps of work left to do!!
