You're a bloody clever bastard Mitch..... I just wish I had half the ability you do. Keep up the good work mate, some great ideas there for all of us campers/tourers

Nice work Mitch, well done. I would not be too concerned about the bright alloy sheet, they oxidize and dull off pretty quickly if you don't want to paint it.
The tent sits on it really well with the height you made it. With your fit out, have a look at some of the plastic drawer sets at Bunnings they are light and easy to clean etc, I got the Oates ones.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

Thanks fella's :geek:

Yer new rear leafs are a must! I hit the bump stops just leaving the supermarket car park tonight  Unfortunately I blew my budget leading up to Easter so they will have to wait a few more weeks. Plus my money tree isnt growing very well

Jack, those springs shouldn't ever see much crap in there, bit of fine dust at the most! Ones on my dogs cage have seen all sorts of crap though, dirt, sand, mud, calf sh!t, dog sh!t, my sh!t and so far they are still functioning properly!

Yer, hadn't planned on painting it until Quinny was blinded by it as I was heading down hill and he was following! Still deciding. Kinda hard to keep paint on alloy and be durable. How do you keep yours clean? I'll look into those draws, I remember peeking at yours at newvember, didn't mind them! Just like everyone I've gotta keep weight to a minimum especially since I don't plan on towing a trailer so the canopy will be loaded up at times when the family is with me.

Mine isn't particularly clean, it has a red outback dust tinge to it, I just wash it with CT18 but once the mud and dust gets into it I think you would need to polish it out but I am not interested in doing that. I was going to have mine powdercoated when I first made it but glad I didn't , it only gets scratched and marked up in the bush anyway.
Teach Quinny the safety squint or get him a set of sunnies

If only it had happened a couple of hours later. Quinny would have been sitting safely with his homebrew squint on. No sunlight gets through that defence and no need for sunnies.

 :o

That last pic requires the safety squint also!

I'm not convinced $10 of home brew will do the job for that one

Mitch's build - long range tank

Postby amitch888 on Thu, 05 May 2011 6:09 +0000

Well ive had another project on the go recently while I was building the canopy, a long range tank. Been keen on one of these for a while, sick of having jerry cans and diesel which leak through my other gear on the floor of the tray, plus its a pain having to put them into the other tank.

So what ive built is a fuel tank that fits up under the front of the tray and above the chassis out of stainless steel, should hold approximately 133 litres, plus the stock tank, which should take me a long way :D Its got a couple of baffles inside to stop it washing around to much. I'll be taking the filler off the original tank and fitting this up to the new one except on the drivers side ( where they all should be lol). Which i'll hook the bottom of the new tank to the top of the old tank, both filler and breather hoses.

Havent actually fitted it in yet because the tray has to come off to get it in and I have a few other plans for the tray while its off.

Heres the tank being made

lol cant do that, I didnt build this one in my own shed, I have been working away from home a bit lately and while away I slipped into a workshop where I know some people and used all the big toys :D Guillotine and sheet metal folder plus a bunch of other toys id love to have, they make everything heaps faster and a neater job, over time I plan on filling my shed with these toys

Looking good amitch. Love the QR canopy and dog cage idea. Really cool rig.
Can't for the life of me see how your new diesel tank is going to work though :?
Have to wait and see.
