just an update on my new HILUX - finally got it!

Hey fellas,

went 4x4'ing away to Barmah State Forest this weekend. Got the Hilux a good dose of mud, probably more than I should have and she came out pretty unscathed. The thing is the steering wheel sits slightly bit more to the right now, but she still drives straight.

I was very impressed with the suspension over corrugations, through ruts and the like. The only thing that bottomed out every now and then was the TJM underbody guard, on the first corner from the front going to the back.

Heres some pics for ya's-

we had a ball. I think the next trip we are going to go to the Otways Rainforest, bout October/November.

8-)

P.S I forgot to mention, the Buckshots are awesome through the mud. Yeah, I may have gotten stuck in one very boggy boghole, but going uphill in the wet or through muddy ruts, you can fell the tyres digging till they get to the hard stuff underneath and then pushing ya forward.

great value for money tyre ;)

You need to buy one of those cheap gurney's, very quick and does not scratch the paint work as would happen if you did it by hand.

I hate to rain on yours and others parade mmaaxx but have a frikin good look at this shot and tell me you don't understand why they shut down access to parts of this beautiful country of ours to four wheel drives!!

To me you've just totally and absolutely murdered a story that I've followed with great interest over the last three pages and I certainly hope not all members of this forum are tarred with the same brush.

Richard,

I'm newish to this forum but so far have found everybody to be very polite, supportive and in possession of a good sense of humour.

Opinions are exactly that opinions.
Whether you agree with a bit of fun in a boghole or not is no reason to sling mud yourself.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions, but please keep the name calling for some other forum.

I agree with 10k.

Let's keep this forum clean.

If you think the pictures are not proper due to environmental issues, take it up with Dave via PM as he's the boss here since we have no moderators.

I chose to be active in this forum as it's totally dedicated to our Hilux and the members here are decent, polite etc. unlike some other 4WD forums which I stay away.

I'm not saying that you are not decent Richard. LOL!!8-)

Cheers

Fair enough guys, my apologies.

Although by no means am I new four wheel driving my attitude comes from living in one of Australias most isolated towns for the last 27 years (Nhulunbuy/Gove).

Some 15 years ago the mining company here did an extensive expansion project that involved some 800 extra contractors on site for 12 months.

Some of these guys would head out in all directions on their Sunday off in their 4x4's with boots full of slabs and just absolutely rip tear and bust, not to mention the rubbish that was left behind.

The local Yolnu people finally got sick of it in the end so developed the Dhimurru Land Management Council and along with that came "yearly fees" and restricted permit access.

I don't have a problem with paying the 80 bucks a year for the permit but the areas covered by the permit, as I said, are restricted.

What I do have a problem with is the fact that prior to the project going ahead I could jump in a 4x4 and head out to Cape Arnhem (the Cape being off the General Permit) and beyond for the day. Now you have to book well in advance (up to 5 weeks) and fork out an extra 15 bucks per vehicle. If I get caught without a permit, I stand the chance of losing my vehicle and all the equipment inside plus a 10 grand fine per person caught!

All this because of a few people that had absolutley no respect for this great country of ours we live in so consequently I have a bit of a stigma attached to roostertails.

Again, my apologies, I shall have to teach myself to bite my tongue, even though I detest being part of the seamingly silent minority.

If you'd like to check out some shots from the area have look at ..http://www.dhimurru.com.au/recareas.html

ps: You're a very funny guy Brendon :)

Richard,

Gee......thanks for the compliment mate.

I checked out the link and it looks absolutely beautiful.

I've been to Australia once and I had a great time. However, I only managed to go to Gold Coast and Sydney. I traveled there on my own. It would have been better if I had been able to meet you guys and seen the real outback Australia!

Oh well, maybe I'll have another crack at OZ again...........

Cheers
