SR5 Dual Cab - Make Over

OK been thinkin bout it long enough, time to get things going along with the car. my basic idea is to set up the car to work our of and also play out of. We have two small kids and we are super keen to get out and go camping etc. Look out for a camper/ATV trailer build up coming soon. (gonna hit that as soon as our house is finished and i have a shed, my manliness level is very low at the moment, as i dont have a shed.....)

So this is it.

Step 1. Install lightforce spotties (with lots of help from all the forums here that i've checked out already), wired up through a Fog Light switch available online. Not geniune but looks like it.
Step 2. Design and install a set of multi purpose drawers that can be used for work and play.
Step 3. Upgrade suspension with 2" lift kit and 33" tyres.

any help or suggestions are appreciated.

i am not sure if i am right here but dont think you will be ably to fit 33's with just a 2" lift....

you'll be rubbing damn hard on them.....unless you go 33/10.5x15's on sr5 wheels, you may get away with it...with 285's, i doubt it.

looking forward to the build made, good luck.

Hey mate you will get 285's under with some miner mods I'm running 285's with no lift and they dont rub so with 2 inch it should be easy

I doubt it.....on the road with no bumps...maybe....theres no way you could flex the front end and not rub.

I had to mod my front bump stop to stop the tyre hitting the guard on full compression with my 33's.....and thats with a 3" lift......with no lift ....impossible.

i'd also claim impossible, i have a (atm sagged) 2-3" lift with 285's, chopped body mounts and heavily trimmed guards and i still have rubbing issues when wheeling hard, tomorrow i'll be copying max and extending my bump stops a little.

Had a look at your shed notsoruff and noticed you say your rims are 16x8's with a +10 offset? just wondering if bringing the tire inward 10mm would make all the difference? what make are your rims?

sorry for drifting off topic ATV, good luck with the build mate, can't wait to see it transform. Lift wise i'd reccomend going a 3" suspension lift then if your still wanting more whack a VMN body lift in.

the 10mm difference would help with clearance to the body mount but wont make any difference on full compression and hitting the flare......thats a tyre diameter issue.

Yer Marshwa and max i follow both your builds so i respect both of you but they don't rub so this is what i have done.

*Nissan gu rims +10 0ffset
*BFG's 285/75-16
*body mount cut and weld
*rib hit back
*inner plastic guarded heat and pushed back
* bumb stopped spaced by 6mm
*Flare cut a little bit but were you can't see

So thats all i have done and no rubing. It might be because it's an xtra cab i don't know.
I hope this answer some questions and theres some new posts soon about this topic

Cheers Mitch

With the bump stop mod he would have more down travel without a lift with not much up travel in theory it should work because his bumpstops are around the same as yours max thus limiting the up travel which is stopping the 33s carving the gaurds. In theory he will hit his bumpstops alot sooner than you would max

yes mate it stops the wheel hitting the flare because it limts the up travel by 12mm and max and i have both got a 6mm spacer on the bump stop beacuse i got the idear off him

I have 33x12.5x15 on landcruiser offset sunies and i scrub out hard now the 3" lift has settled in. Need to pull finger out and install body lift sitting in shed.

Good luck with the build :D

thanks for the great advice. not completly sue about the 2" lift and the 33". was told by tires guys that it would be fine. gonna go for the Mickey thompsons, as we do alot of sand driving nice soft wall is the go, although it's not perfect for hard rocky driving, cant have both I guess.

since i wrote this thread we (being the wife) has decided that she would lilke the 2007 Hilux back and that leaves me with the newer 2009 hilux. so i've got a blank canvas to work with. will put the lightforce 240 on the new one. i'll post some pics as it gets on. will change the wellbody to a tray and drop some drawers into the tray. will post some new pics as it gets done.
