9L under tray water tank

Hi All
Thought i would just share what i done to get a small water tank under my Hilux
First of its a pain in the arse to do
It is made from 90 mm PVC and fits very tight in position
You need to glue it in position and then need to wreck it to remove
The 3 picture i will post up explains most of it .
You do need to warm it up with an oxy and make clearance to get the spare wheel rod through after install
Just a good one for washing hands etc without a larger tank
Unsure if i would do the same again but options for others

Not sure for next time, i like the idea and did hope for a bit more capacity
but like i said it was alot if mucking around and the fittings into the PVC are not bomb proof

With a tray there is plenty out there in the way of tanks to strap under

The idea is good just the position is very tight. Maybe under the front of the tray area but the outlet would be a chalenge..

How do you fill it up? Do you attach a hose straight to the outlet? If this is the case what do you use for the air release valve at the tank?

I like it- simple but effective- great for kids needing to wash their hands and stuff!

Yep I fill it up by attaching hose
For the air breather i went a "not needed" brass fitting with a small hole drilled and tapped into PVC cap
Dont do this... just drill a small 3mm hole in the very top of the PVC it would do the same thing and costs nothing.

I fill it up slowly, takes about a minute and sqarts water when full . but you would be lucky to loose half a cup out the breather when driving around after a week.

Even better screw in an old diff breather or similar..

Dif breather won't work. It is one way out so won't let air in

Just did a similar mod on a mates SR5 dual cab. Made a tank out of two lengths of pipe joined together. One 100mm sewer pipe (new of course) and one 90mm stormwater pipe. Drop the spare down from under neath and then sit the pipes up inplace. With one sitting against the other we put two metal straps around them and teked them to the support rails on under side of tub. Spare sits down about 20 mm further at the front now but is slightly higher at the back. All up I think it holds about 25ltrs. Sorry but don't have pics...

If any one else does this, make sure you use a ball valve like in the pics above. A normal garden tap is no good as it wont allow the water to be pressure fed into the tank for filling.

how did you secure the pipe mate? just with standard brackets?

Also did you install baffles inside, and did they / would they serve any useful purpose?

Nah mate. No baffles. Didn't think we'd need them as it's not a huge volume. Pipe was secured in place with three strips of thin flat steel, wrapped around a piece of insertion rubber and teked to the under side of the tray. Think truck fuel tank straps. The first teks went in from the side ( or rear ) of the tray support beam and the second teks went up from undwerneath the other beam putting tension on the strap as they pulled up. Really simple but it worked well.

I did put a baffle in the middle by gluing a cap in the middle with small holes drilled around the edge,
but dont bother its not needed..
mine only holding 9 L would be like shaking a 2l coke bottle when half empty
Mine goes the full width of the tray (90mm pipe)

to secure it i used the propper straps from the hardware store and tecked them (2) into the rails under the tray.
as said they hold it very tight when the screws are tightened up so it will never move ..

Using insertion rubber would make the holder even tighter so no chance of moving ( good idea )
Have a look at the straps at the shop and see how tight they are when done up...
There easy to use as you just screw em up and thats it, tight ......
