Bassman's SR5 Build Up

Postby Bassman on Tue, 16 Mar 2010 12:27 +0000

Ok, I thought I would start the build up tread early in the piece. As at today, I haven' as yet taken delivery of the 'Lux as the Dealer is still fitting a few bits n pieces to it. I should pick it up later this week. The dealer is yet to fit the Bullbar , Tray Liner, Torneau cover, Window Tint, Tow Bar, Rola Roof bars (to hold the surfbaoard)Mats and plastics. They also have it booked in to have the Dick Cepek "Torque" rims 16 x 8 with BFG All Terrains in 265 / 70/ 16 put on.

Stay tuned. I will post some pics as they come to hand!!

Once I do pick it up, I will be fitting an ARB battery tray with a Projecta Dual battery System so I can power up the Trailblaza Fridge. I got the Projecta kit off eBay and the battery tray from Macarthur 4WD at Minto.

I will also be fitting my Hella Predators to the bullbar and installing the GME TX3200 somewhere......Ahhhso much work to do....

Just got back from Blair's Tyres where the "Masked Hilux" (delivery stickers still on the bonnet and roof) is having the DC Torque rims and BFG's fitted. After fitting the new tyres we checked for clearance..the rear has no problem but the front is a different story. The tyres rub on the lower section of the front bumper near full lock. It has been suggested that the bullbar should be fitted first and THEN the tyres.

I rang my Sales guy at Toyota and was informed that the genuine Toyota Forge Alloy Bullbar is still on backorder and wont be available for another 4 weeks or so. However, thay couild fit a Deluxe ARB bar instead. I figured this would work better anyway as the side "wings" of the ARB bar sit up out of the way and will allow for greater clearance for the upsized tyres/wheels.

So the Masked Hilux is off to ARB for some bar work with only the rear tyres n mags fitted --sure looks weird.

I should take delivery of it on Friday all being well. Stay tuned

I think sometimes some things are meant to happen...anyway the "StealthLux" as my kids call it should be ready for me to take delivery on Friday. The ARB deluxe bar should look good...I asked them to leave it in the black powdercoat finish.
Will put a few pics up next week.

Black man, that's black!! Looks sweet as! You'll be a hell of a lot happier with the ARB bar in the long run. A mate hit a roo with one at 80km/h and it folded srtaight bach into the bonnet wrecking everything in it's path. My TJM steel bar has hit 4 roos at speeds of up to 120 km/h and you wouldn't even know it to look at it!
The beatings will continue untill the morale improves.

I'm glad now that Toyota were out of stock of the Alloy Forge Bar....I have always had alloy bars on my Toyos and I can now look forward to less hours spent on polishing the bugs off......Now...the roos are scared of the ARB and Mr .270 8-)
