Mate to be honest I haven't really noticed a huge difference in fuel usage. My diesel was and auto, and the V6 is a manual so I kind of think that makes up for the difference between the diesel and the V6.

Gee mate I think you will be noticing a slight temperature difference. We currently have a bit of a southerly cold front covering tas. The days have been excellent, but a bit cool overnight and first thing in the morning......

As far as the body lift goes mate, I am a bit torn on that. One part of me wants to fit a body lift, 33 and hit the trails for some fun, but the other side of me doesn't want to cover a black car in bush pinstripes and therefore make it impossible to sell because it will look rough as guts......

I am seriously considering buying an old single cab hilux, or 40 series or something to use as a fun toy, and keep the hilux for places that wont destroy it.....Also it is just such a fine line between keeping it (kind of) legal. Get a bit concerned about having a crash and insurance saying "sorry you are not covered because your tyres are too big". That would hurt just a bit too much........ Too many decisions!!!!!!

cheers

Mate I would love to have that relaxed attitude and some stories for my panel damage, but I know I just have this terrible habit of getting bored with cars and get keen to move onto the next project. I enjoy the challenge of changing a stocker to look good and preform better just as much as using them for what there built for.......

The more damage the less $$$$ on sale. That's why I'm considering getting a cheaper ute or something for the harder tracks, and just use the hilux for a bit of camping and the tracks I know wont destroy the paint work........

Truck looks awesome Murf... If you wanna do body lift with rear ARB bar i'll show you my plan, its fairlly similar to the thread on hear of lifting the front bar... basically cut at mount and re-weld 2 inch higher...

Hey Murph,
I'm thinking of doing the same to my 07 SR5 in terms of suspension and front bar. Can I ask, what type of ARB bar is it on the front? (model name or something would be good). As well, did you find that the front end dropped a bit when you put bar on, with the extra weight as I hate the nose down look, especially as I'm fitting a winch as well.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Christian

Gday Christian,

Mate the front bar on my ute is an Ironman deluxe steel bar. There has been alot of talk about Ironman products on many different forums, some good some bad. I can only go on my experience from their products and I have never had an issue. This is my second hilux and I have had Ironman suspension and steel bar on both of them.

This time around they had just released the "deluxe" steel model so I went with that. The main factor for me was price. To be able to buy a bar that had LED indicator lights, extra spot lights, and splash plates for the price I couldn't look anywhere else. It also came with full wiring loom for light that included a factory matched switch for the dash. As I brought a number of products at one time I managed to pick the bar up brand new for under a grand. Anything from ARB,TJM etc was nearly, or was double that price.

As for the suspension, is doesn't really matter what brand you go for just make sure the spring rate is suited the extra weight you are adding. A steel bar and winch is hanging a lot of weight right at the front of your ute, so it will sag a bit. I used heavy duty coils and I got about a 10mm sag even without a winch........

Hey Murf just a question about your suspension... With the extra spacer in the front shocks what height does your rig sit ? I've got the same shocks and thinking it's gunna need the extra spacer... Did you change your rear suspension or is it still stock ? Rig Lookin the goods love the black...

Mate with the extra spacer I managed to get about a 3 1/2 inch lift in the front. After it has settled a bit now, it is sitting at 3 inch lift. I did put new rear leaf springs in as well mate. I put the comfort springs (up to 200kg I think they are) in the rear which gave about a 40mm lift.

So with the extra spacer and heavy duty coils in the front, it is sitting just a fraction lower in the front than the rear. Very close to being level.

Hope that info helps mate

cheers

Life has decided to throw me a bit of a curve. It must of been karma, for me cracking a couple of jokes about selling the hilux........

Believe me I did not think I would actually be selling this one. I really really want to keep this ute, but unfortunately due to some very unexpected news I now have to list it for sale.......

After putting so much effort and cash into this ute, I was hoping to keep it for a long time. Sometimes decisions have to be made, for the future and selling the hilux is a decision I just have to make at the moment!!

Not happy about it at all, but don't worry when things change in the future I will be back with a better lux than both of my hilux's......
