So here it is a much more usable as a 4WD now very happy with the mods, seems I may have found a mate with a warn winch still in the box that is going to waste and may go cheap. I will check it out next week end, so having said that has anyone fitted a winch after having already fitted bar work ? Had a bit of a play in the bush on the week end and I was very happy with my set up, mind you it is still very dry here and hard under foot. Anyway back to saving the bucks for future mods, under bonnet compressor and second battery next on the list along with spot lights.

Cheers

Cheers Max,

Hopefully get hold of the winch from my mate, lights, dual batteries and on-board compressor that would see me done for a little time anyway. Would love to have it all locked up with air lockers one day. :D

Oh yeah and get it dirty very dirty ! LOL

Another nice looking hilux . . well done . .

Its a pity Toyota just can’t bring them out like that . . . .

Instead of us having to spend heaps more money to get it looking like that . . . .

Hey guys well I picked up the winch from my mate, brand new in the box 9,000 lbs Premier winch for the pricely sum of a gun safe. Had a good look and think I may be able to get in in without removing the bar gees I hope so. Anyway has anyone heard of these winches have done a search and found a little info all seems to be good. Plan is to mount winch and fairleader soon and look at mounting the relays under the bonnet with a switch into cab to control in/out from drivers seat, may mount the external lead some where out of sight aswell just in case. I will take a few pics as I go but any advice from the gurus on this sight would be awesome.

Cheers

Have fitted the winch, while I was adjusting the gearbox side so the disenage lever was up I had a good look at the exlpoded view in the handbook, as it turned out was really easy to seperate the gearbox, and motor from the drum housing. I then un wound the cable off the drum two reasons first to make it lighter to handle and secondly have heard on occassions the end of the cable has not been connected. Removed the grill and bonnent catch/stay. While holding the tonuge right and carefully twisted and turned the drum housing and bam in it goes ! No need to remove barwork YEAH. Re-fitted gearbox and motor fitted to bar drilled out the fairleader and fitted. After reading Quinneys post I agreed didnt like the box on the front so pulled the box apart and fitted the soleniods up on the left hand side and ran the cables nice and neat. Ran out of time to finish off today but have made a bracket for the winch control plug to fit under/behind bar and will run a extra set of wires inside on a three way switch to inside the cab so I can control from both outside or inside depending on what is required.

Yep... That move into the engine bay is going to be on my list...

I'll just use the wireless remote from the cab though...

Did you need to purchase any extra cable leads and if so where'd you get them from...

Mine will end up under my rear tray.... not overly fussed on getting it installed, its a fair way down my list of stuff to do... I dont run alot of fridges or stuff that requires a constant power source... If I use the winch alot I'll just wait it out, and if I kill it due to an issue like Skog and Co had it's not the end of the world...

I am hearing you Drew but like Quinny second battery is down the list and was thinking of putting it under the tray on a slide out draw.
