Quinny's Mistress - The Bitch is Back...

PostPosted: Mon, 16 Mar 2009 7:10 +0000

Well its that time... Where I'll be saying good bye to my old ute and bring in the new...

Although it'll be hard to get rid of the old... I'm getting to do the next one with some extra knowledge I've gained from the site.

- The new rig will be a Grey (1E9) SR D4D Auto,

Grey will be easier to keep "looking" clean then the black (although Black really does look the shit when its clean)
Auto due to the clutch issues and the fact the auto just seems to perform so well off road in "most" conditions.
Diesel due to motors characteristics... Power down low and through the rev range, reasonably economical, long life.
SR Due to the fact that I'll replace the majority of gear that the SR5 comes with, I'd prefer the vinal floor, will
be removing the tub so rear tubs mods like the sports bar are a waste. Only down side is Im in a hurry and the only
one available is on the boat now and doesn't have ABS, not overly fussed and the fact the SR has no ADD for the
front diff.

The mods first up will be

- Protection, Coz you can never have enough... (Sayz the man with 5 kids)
ARB Deluxe Bar Colour coded with ARB flares.
Although more expensive than the TJM bar I currently have, I do prefer the look and they have slightly better
clearance. I also think they are finished of a bit better with the steel inserts underneath the bar to protect the
water bottles etc.... I couldn't bring myself to get the bush bars though as the cost was extreme, will grab/make a
set of sliders later and make the bush bars then. Will grab some aftermarket lights to fill the bar as OEM stuff is
extremely pricey...

ARB flares came in cheaper than others due to the fact that they split them and I could just get the front 2.

Skog07's Miracle Diff Breathers - Snorkels for your Drive Train!

Safari Snorkel - turnable head.

- Custom tray from Albury Trays and Lockers...
Will post pics when done... Everyone who has dealt with this bloke is extremely happy, I've stopped several blokes
and had a yack about their trays and all reported really good results.

- Wheels and Tyres
Dynamic Black Sunnies 16x8
Mickey Thompson MTZ 285,75,16 (These bad boys should suck up cats from 50m's)

- Suspension
Was looking at the Bilstien shock with King Springs for the front, Billies struts for the rear also with original
leaves + an extra leaf if required. But this is not to be, over a months wait on the Billies :(

So, although still not 100% I think I'll go a Snake racing tough dog kit for a 50mm lift. Adjustable shocks for the
rear should help when unloaded to smooth out the ride a little and then tweak them up under load.

Will update when the order is placed as I want to ring Max's mate for an opinion first.

- Drive train
ARB Front locker with Mid sized compressor for both locker and wheels.
Larger front rotor kit, bigger tyres with brakes that aren’t brilliant to begin with.. not good. Will get the 330mm

Undecided options
Gas <- starting to shy away from this...
Water/Air Intercooler,
Chip
Window Tint
TJM Engine Bash Plate (FUPS) -- May just build my own as per mmaaxx's design
TJM Transmission Bash Plate
Exhaust <-- Bobs exhaust Wodonga but unsure of the can I'll run...

Rig due at the end of this month and hopefully will have tray, suspension, tyres and bullbar for Easter as I'll
probably be taking it to Stockton...

Will post pics as I get them, and go through the various mods others have done such as carputers, roof consoles
etc..

It'll be a bit similar to my Quinny; charcoal manual SR dual cab with alloy tray, ARB deluxe bar with winch, OME heavy duty suspension, ROH RTX alloys with BFG a/t's. (not as big as your tyres!).
I reckon you should look at getting the fog light inserts in the bar; only cost me $150 extra when I ordered it; $200 for after market fog lights including loom. I was the same with the steps and scrub bars; If I feel I need to I'll probably make up a set of sliders.
The grey still shows the dust a bit; best colour I reckon.

Sounds good Quinny, looking forward to some pics.

I have seen an Albury tray on a dual cab, they make a good solid looking tray. Shame the Billies are too long a wait

Your in a good situation where you got to have a practice run with the first Lux and then start again and perfect it.

Hey and 5 kids!!!!??..........have you worked out what causes that yet?????? You must be Catholic

Quinny sounds good, you might consider adding a tranmission cooler to your list seeing you have got the auto. It will addd some peace of mind on long hill climbs or towing. Mine has come on once on a long hill in high 4. Might be something to do with the gey colour

Quinnster....
Thanks for the compliment mate...... "Skog07's Miracle Diff breathers Snorkles for your drive train"
I posted the kit down for you yesterday should arrive today or tomorrow. By the time you get them they would have solved world hunger, created world peace and fixed the global economy.....   There just a flashier version of fuel hose and fuel filters.
Nice list of accessories you have got going there mate.
Reckon the best one and the most important one is the TJM FUG and TUG.
Have you considered locking the rear diff rather than the front?
Good luck with the build mate.
Cheers
Skog

Tint..... Done, Looks awesome.. Big diference with all the windows the same...

ARB Delux Bar... Done, Good job from the local ARB boys... (Just need to source some SR5 lights! if anyone has a spare set or will be grabbing an aftermarket set from ebay)

Tyres.... in the back of the ute ready for fitting tomorrow after the lift.

Chip ... I purchased a Chiptorque unit... $1000 delivered.

www.chiptorque.com.au

They use the Xede systems, a KW boost to 149, 4 short of the steinbauer and an approx torque of 390 - 400. Chip is tuneable via a laptop and comes with various tunes for the price. One with chip only, one for chip and exhaust...

Very happy with the support so far and will keep you updated... Not for everyone, but I've had some experience with tuning and programming eproms for cars and the like so Im very happy with this chips ability to allow me or anyone I choose to tweak it as opposed to other set and forget models.
