Parr I got the flexi flares from TJM they are the bush ranger ones and they are 65mm wide !!!!! i got the wider ones just to be sure and to help stop sitcks and stones etc from flinging up. Like you said harry they are expensive if you can get a similar thing from clark go fo it, and they attach to the stock flares well i havnt had any dramas. If you go thiner on the flaexi flares it might look better agains the silver but if you have black on your barwork or rims it will all blend in i rekon.

Sclater i had a lift the same as the smart lift in my previous hilux and yes the cv's wer at the stock angle and i never had a drama... but i didnt have a front locker.

With the wizard kit the cv's are no where near the stock angle. How ever the wizard kit is supposed to be a 3in lift mine is set closer to 4 than 3. The wizard kit comes with a 1" spacer fro the front of the diff that may give you 1/2inch off the cv angle. So set at 3in the cv's are like it being set at a 2.5in lift.

The stock cv's are quiet strong and it was a number of factors which led to mine failing. My front locker was engaged, the lift had my cvs at high vertical angle, i was at full lock on the steering (driving in circles at the top of the dune so the photographer could get a few pics) so the cv's were at a very high horizontal angle, so they were being twisted 2 different ways at the same time, and the width of my tyres... which the force of the sand pushed them into my swaybar / chasis, the tyre griped the sway bar, cv's at full angle both verticaly and horizontaly, and with the locker in the drive couldnt be taken away from that tyre so it went snap.

With the smart lift the cv's would on have been at full lock horizontaly but stock angle verticaly and may not have snapped, but thiner tyres and no locker would have stopped it too and even with the smart lift if i still had the same tyres and locker it probaly would have broken.

I lernt a lesson lol and now the front locker only goes in where i might lift a wheel off the ground or where i need the extra traction but only in a straight line. I am after the stronger cv's as they also give more articulation and can more handle being at the constant angle my lift puts them in.

So if i had the smartlift and no locker engaged i think i can safley say that i would not have broken the cv.

Sory this has been long winded lol i hop it helps.

thanks drew, Im goin to be goin with the same rim tire combo as you exept in a 35, I think the wider flare will help stop the car painting itself when the front is at flex and turned :D

Well as you know i am on a quest to get as much travel out of the ifs as i can. The next step in this arrived today, a set of monster rides new cv's for testing !!!
Although all my cash is going into our house at the moment the minister of finance agreed to a set of these 8-)
I am cery interested to see how much travel these will give me with my total chaos upper control arms and race runner shocks already installed.

Maxx i see you are geting a set of the camburg uca's.... nice it will be interesting to see how you go with those ball joints compared to my total chaos ones.

It will be a few weeks before i can get them in and post up all the pics etc as we are in between houses untill the new one is finished if it ever stops raining

Hey drew, nice to see some new mods and plans in the making, lovin the new cv's mate should be sweet can't wait for you full report!!

Mate what i jumped on here to ask was how you got on with the total choas lower arms? Did you manage to find out how long until they bring them out to suit our lux's.

After drooling over freeze's build and his medium travel kit. I've been thinking about doing the same for a while now, and now monster has some longer, stronger cv's for us, defently thinking it might be the way to go.

What i'm just trying to get my head around it, and was hoping you might be able to help out with is, are our upper "total choas" arms made to suit there medium travel kit? Or if we want to up size to the medium travel with the longer lower control arms will we need new upper arms aswell?

Good luck installing the cv's, keep us updated.

Cheers, Max

Marshwa, the problem isnt the upper arms, they are interchangeable....the lower arms are different, dont know why but they are and its a reason why total chaos was testing a specific hilux/vigo kit which they have now abandoned plans on.

no one is game enough to bring a kit over (big bucks).

with what Drew and myself are going to do, you wont need the medium travel kit from total chaos....trust me ;)

What maxx said hehehehe...

Yeh our UCA's match a stoc lower UCA. For the mid travel kit you would have to replace both with the kit.
As maxx said the lower ones are different, thats all anyone can tell me, not exactly whats different but just that they are. And like maxx said no one has been game enough to spend the big bucks and develop a kit specificaly for the hilux.

Our UCA's and shock setup along with the setup maxx is going to be running, give more articluation than our stock cv's can keep up with, so the extra angle in these new shafts will let our UCA's and shocks work how they are supposed to.

I too would love the mid or even long travel kit in my truck, a set of fiber glass front fenders, and have even been thinking about a full tube tray and roll bar setup that either the stock tub pannels bolt too or fibreglass rear plannels too lol.... but even if one was made id hate to try and get it engineered

Thanks guys. Bit of a bummer bout the kit. haha your right about the engineering would be near impossible being possibly the first in Australia.

Very interested so see how you guys go, your shed look ready enough to start pullin the lux apart!  , good luck guys, can't wait to see what yous come up with

Bye Bye clutch !!!! I have been worried about this day for a long time seeing the problems other members have had. Well mine finaly went today, it didnt go gradualy it just went. On my way to town to pick up a post hole digger, pouring rain, pulled out onto the highway in a spot where i never get traction, 1st spining, 2nd spining, 3rd spining all with minimum throttle... into 4th i think it must be off the slippery section now and have a bit or momrntum up so put the foot down a bit motor still revs but no wheel spin noise but ute still hardly moving, look behind me and a huge cloud of white smoke behind me, wind down the window and yep clutch.

Get to town and every 1st gear start shuddes and shakes violently and everytime i get out it just stinks of clutch. I want toyota to pay for a new one of course but i couldnt even get the cruise that was on their specs list lol However i dont want to waste my time with another toyota clutch so i think it will either be the ultimate suspensions clutch upgrade or an exceedy safari and end the issue permanently.

Anyone who has upgraded their clutch i would appreciate your feedback.
