Planning on upgrading my stock suspension in my 2011 SR 2WD Toyota Hilux 3.0D with this new suspension kit:

Can anyone provide advice on what size wheels I can upgrade to (width + diameter) without causing any big problems, vehicle specs below:

I own a 2wd Hilux 2010 I put 20 inch x40 tyres on mine I changed the rubber and went to 20 inch x50 which rubs also I than put 30mm lift in the front fix the problem of rubbing under the guards but rubs on the frame which I can live with the speedo is 10km out on my speedo .this also raisers the car up ,Iam happy with it.

Thanks for the help, so what was the total diameter in inches?

the diameter is 30 inches and 10 inches wide my revs sit at 1750 on 100km per hour and it is a v6 4 ltr

my stocks wheels and tyres are 15x6 inches with 205x70 R15 = approx 24" in total - if I go with a new Iron Man Suspension Kit approx 50mm (2") lift + the difference between a 24" and 30" = approx 8" difference between stock and new - whats your thoughts on this?

the rear of my tabletop the wheels are fine with the tyre size increase 20x50x255 but the front sloping down which is normal , I had the guards rolled and the rubbing was still there so I purchased 30mm king springs and yes this fixed the under guard rubbing but the tyres still just rubs the frame, the car now sits level and it does not look dicky with the small wheel look . if you put 20x255x40 these tyres will not rub the guards or frame and speed error is about 5kmh more . and my tyres are on road tread .if you have a tub I do not know about the space under the guards in the rear . hope this helps you and good luck,

I'm keeping an eye out for some new rims + wheels for my 2011 SR 2WD Toyota Hilux 3.0D with a scheduled 2" lift. Some good blokes here have already advised me I can most likely upgrade to maximum 30"

Should I be:
- Replace my existing 15" + new rubber for a total of 30"
- Upgrade to 16" + new rubber for a total of 30"
- Upgrade to 17" + new rubber for a total of 30"

What's the pro and cons of the different rim sizes? Any problems and snowball upgrades that happen from upgrading rim size? My driving consists of sealed roads through the week, dirt, mud and beach on the weekends (AKA a weekend warrior)

Brakes, specifically front rotor diameter. Needs to increase with tyre diameter.

Got a 07 2wd.
Picked up a set pf alloy Rav4 wheels, 225/65R17's (28.5"). Fit perfect, and 2" in tyre diameter increase over the 205/70R15's. Speedo is spot on, compared to my satnav.

But thinking of putting some 225/70R17's (29.4")from the 4WD hilux's on to a set of Rav steelies I also have.
Only a slight increase again on the 65 series, so might be good for touring, keep the alloys for town.

There were front wheel drive cars on the beach at Emu Bay when I was there earlier this year!

Sorry dirt roads, to the beach! Dunno how the 2WD would go on our tassie beaches! I suppose that's why I have plenty of mates to tow me out!

So an upgrade in breaks regardless of option?

Check with a tyre shop, they are very familair with the laws.

Just a bit of an update, a guy of Gumtree is offering me these, $80 for the set (15" / 6")




How to know what the offset is? he advised me they came off 05' 2WD Hilux
What option would I have for All Terrains on these rims, I'm not super skilled at the conversions yet?

$80 sounds good but the size and offset may be stamped on the rim somewhere. A rough measure is place the rim flat on a level surface, with a rule measure from the ground to the inside face of the rim where it bolts to the hub. That should give you a rough offset if you turn the wheel over and do the same from the outside of the rim to the face of the hub inside. If the measurements are equal, no offset. Otherwise you get a + or minus measure. Take one to a tyre shop and they will tell you, also they will tell you what tyre options you have. 255/75R15 = 30.1x10R15 gives you some idea of the maximum you should go.

from my understanding, a 255/75R15 won't fit a 6" wide rim though?

See the tyre shop and they will tell you the maximum size you can fit. If you want baggy tyres for sand they will be ok.
235 75 R15 will be the best fit for your 2wd that gives you 28.9" diameter and there should be plenty of options with that size. About $145 should get some quality tyres.
