Picked up this 2011 SR 2WD Toyota Hilux 3.0D and the end of 2018, after wanting something suitable for camping trips, mountain bike adventures and work-related trips.
This is my first utility purchase and utes especially Hilluxes are so inflated down here in TAS so I travelled over to Victoria and picked this up from a dealership as an ex-fleet vehicle with 190,000km, immaculate service history and only one owner for 14k.
My main priorities for this build is to get it equipt for trips away with mates & family & safer for off-road solo use.
I'll upload some photos soon of the draw system & bike rack setup and I've got some new wheels and A/T tyres being installed in the coming weeks also.
RIMS:
Managed to find a set of these 16" Steel Sunnies with the correct offset and spacing for $50 a pop
TYRES TRIAL #01:
The first battle with new A/T Tyres on the rims I purchased above was the limited amount of options for 'light truck' .... minimal to none. I looked further into TAS Legislation and talked to my insurance company. Absolutely no problem getting approval for 'passenger' A/T tyres up to a maximum of 2" increase in diameter. First I tried a set of 215/70R16 Maxxis Bravo A/T:
TYRES TRIAL #02:
There was still plenty of room and I hadn't exceeded 2" increase in total diameter so I stepped up to a 225/70R16 Maxxis Bravo A/T:
Pretty much spot on a 2" increase. Bf Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2s where on sale so I ended up with them in a 225/70R16. We get a bit of snow down here through winter and I do a bit of travelling for site visits for work so I went with them. Picking up in a few weeks so Ill upload some photos
BIKE CARRIER:
One of my main priorities was sorting carrying two enduro mountain bikes without impacting on my roof space. Settled with this:
Yakima HoldUp EVO 2"https://www.yakima.com.au/holdup-evo-2- Folds up out of the way when not in use
- Folds down at 45 to gain access to tray when loaded with bikes
- Can plug on an additional 2 bikes by adding the HoldUp EVO +2
- has a bottle opener for when the fellas are thirsty after sending it all afternoon
Highly recommend
