That's a gem right there! Don't think there is any other registered in the states with US plates! (not that I have heard of at least!)

I wonder what parts from the Tacoma can fit on to the Hilux with minor adjustments... This is something I have been curious about for years!

Some parts do, some don't. Gearboxes, some driveline parts are the same (depending on which generation).. the suspension parts, while they look similar, are different. LCAs for example are different (might be the same but part# are different) but you can make them fit. Springs are softer all round (current generation spring hanger on the rear is upside down like an Amarok).

The frames are totally different - they are box section until the end of the cab and then they are C section...if they haven't rusted out already.

The Tacoma is really a Hilux lite.

Wonder how many newer Hiluxs in USA, I have a 2009 for 9 years now.

I'm not having a lot of luck cross referencing parts to Taco stuff. As you guys mentioned a few tidbits will swap over in the suspension, but overall not much. Had it out on some trails yesterday, and even with the new injectors etc. I'm noticing a rattle under load at certain RPMs. It continues on deceleration until idle and then stops. I also noticed it is very loud during the fuel leak test in Techstream when it increases fuel pressure and RPMs to 2k. I'm still reading through the threads on here about rattles to try to find the source. Would be nice if I had another one to listen to, not sure what's normal!

Not sure, I've only seen one or two that were on military bases for special ops use.

They do rattle a bit... what are the injector feedback values in techstream? Given they are new injectors, it shouldn't be too bad. Perhaps have a look at the SCV pressure compared to the target pressure.

I get a lot of my maintenance parts from Mick's Garage in Ireland, usually has the lowest shipping rates to USA.

Injector feedback values are all less than 1, going to pull off the scv tomorrow night and have a look at it's condition. I don't remember the target pressure, I'll compare and report back, thanks!

Check the ytube for info on the SCV

Short story: just buy the new updated version if it isn't already fitted.

Got the SCV out, took it apart and unfortunately it was spotless. I cleaned it up anyway and checked it on the bench. Operation was quick and smooth.

It is the older version so I'll get the updated version on order in the near future.

Techstream data is as follows:

Target pressure is within the 2000kpa spec. Keen to hear if the longer version makes any changes.

It may be a bit before I get a replacement but I'll definitely report back! I'm beginning to think that what I'm hearing is normal for this engine...

Yep, they do rattle. Some more than others but if you have new injectors and the seats are good you should have most of the potential problems sorted.

Counting on that!

Also, just finished my second tank of gas with the new injectors etc. 660 Ks til the fuel light came on. 20.050 gallons to fill up. Came out to 21 mpg, pretty good with lift and the current tires!

Looks like you could be here in Australia.

Good luck with the snorkel install.

Thanks! It went relatively smoothly. Despite counterpunching the holes with the template the aft most hole was off a bit and had to be elongated. All the clips on the fender flare need to be replaced and the flare itself looks like it was poorly removed before, broken tabs etc.

Are there any decent aftermarket flares out there that use all of the factory mounting points?
