Good to know! I'd go with the 17" wheels and 4runner brakes but I'm not sure I want to give up that much sidewall. The Taco brakes should be a good compromise.

Ordered a Tacoma steering wheel with audio controls, a new clock spring and a few other things for a steering wheel conversion. The rubber on mine is soft and worn and I like the feel of leather. It'll be a while before I get an aftermarket stereo due to Covid related shortages but I'll be ready.

Clock spring came in today, had to get the 12 pin style for the steering wheel controls. Also a good time to clean up the column wiring. Tacoma wheel should be here tomorrow, hopefully everything will go smoothly!

I got the steering wheel in, everything went pretty well. Cruise control had to have pins one and two swapped to work. Also the connector for the stereo controls has 12 pins instead of 10 so I'll have to source that connector whenever I do the stereo swap. Overall pretty pleased.

Picked up an auto dimming Homelink mirror with compass. Waiting on a few things to finish the install.

Finished the install, just waiting for the wire cover to arrive. Added a circuit to the new fuse box (won't be a 30A fuse, just there for a test)

Is that a 4runner I spot there?

It's funny, the Hilux is the forbidden fruit over here so I've wanted one for ages, you guys have them and you want a 4runner. When I'm done with this thing I'll have spent enough $ to buy a new 4runner...

If I could get a diesel 4runner it would be my perfect compromise... Or possibly a diesel Land Cruiser.

Damn, that makes this Hilux one expensive mistress...

Added the RH stereo controls and made a harness from the clock spring to the place where a new stereo will be. It includes the steering pad illumination wire, speaking of that they have amber backlighting so I've ordered green LEDs to replace them.









Now all I need is a stereo to connect it to!

Soldered in green LEDs to replace the amber, turned out good! New stereo is on the way.

New stereo arrived, still waiting on a few things before I install it.

That looks like a nice unit. How many USD?
