An anti wrap bar won't stop the actual axle shaft twisting under load, and then rapidly untwisting when the load is removed, or sufficient torque is accumulated in the screwed up shaft to make the tyre lose traction. This twist/untwist/load/unload happens in what can be a very rapid cycle, and axles won't tolerate it

Common issue in big heavy low geared real trucks with tall tyres.

Ute got some lockdown love over the weekend and finally replaced the eBay spec driving lights with something decent. Went the supernovas, cause they looked to have more spread than the stedis and they were on sale just before the end of financial year. Pretty happy with them, light output is ridiculous and a good mix of spread and spot.

FINALLY got my engine bay under control.
I was originally going to be doing with this with my mechanic mate, who very graciously invites me into the shop on weekends to do some jobs together (EGR clean, exhaust install, replace bearings, some wiring work etc) so I can pretend I know what I'm talking about.

But we never got around to the engine bay and then covid. So dropped it off last week.

He installed a relay hub to clean up the wiring, a solenoid to link the batteries via in cab switch, moved the fuel filter and installed the new catch can. I'd previously installed the HPD can, but read the test review on them and they only do about 50% of the job compared to the Flashlube and provent ones. Couldn't mount it in the spot the bracket puts it because of the hydro booster so it got moved slightly.

Nice build mate. I enjoyed the read. Do you still have the Ocam towing mirrors and if so, are you still happy with them? I'm looking to go the same way. $800 for clearview seems to much. Thanks.

Cheers mate. Yep, still got the mirrors. I love 'em, given them a hiding off road and had a truck clip one, Ocam carry spare parts and are super helpful to deal with.
They do the exact same job as the Clearview and they are a better looking design. $800 is way too much when they both just copied the GM tow mirrors anyway, Clearviews are direct copies from 1999 (even though they state designed in Australia ), the Ocams copied the later model from around 2007.

Finally upgraded the head unit. Nothing was wrong with it, but for the price of a Hema I got a 10" Android unit that can run multiple map apps, spotify, CarPlay, youtube, google etc...Pulled the old one out when the new android one arrived, and found the jokers that installed it had cut the factory harness....

Rewiring the head unit is beyond me, if you're in Sydney I cannot recommend Bendas Installations highly enough! They really took their time to make sure it was all working perfectly and only charged me $150.

What brand is that? I had Joying, now Atoto. Maybe too late now but make sure to get 4gb ram. I’m loving Agama at the moment too, some people prefer carwebguru

It's a Joying, 6gb RAM and 128gb internal storage.

Brand new to Android so it's a bit of a learning curve at the moment, had a look at the Agama launcher but didn't love it.
Really impressed with what you get for the price with the android units though.

In the 8" size range from a good company with a good warranty there are surprisingly few choices under the 1k price point. I'm always looking, but the ones I have work fine for now.

Haven't had a chance to take it off road and see if that was the reason my ute was a bit bouncy of rock steps. Fingers crossed though.
The fact that it's eliminated the shudder I used to get, along with the fact the ute only ever bounced going up steps, never down the same ones, has me pretty hopeful

Also got an ARB twin compressor.

And now I have a toyota with a functioning hand brake!

Needs a slight adjustment, but holds the ute easily. Better than the original ever did.

Nice. From other pics I’ve seen, it looked like the disk had brake hung lower, like it would get ripped off dragging across some rocks. That looks like it’s high up above transfer case though- does it seem vulnerable to you?

A little, but not really if that makes sense?
It sits about level with the chassis rails, and would sit higher in a stock ute. I think it's out of the way and tucked close enough to the transfer case to avoid damage.....I may end up eating those words though

After my first run off road I figured it wasn't worth the risk.
The arm that attaches the cable hangs a little low with zero protection. Kinselas made up a crossmember/skid plate and it's tucked away inside the c channel now. Should be bullet proof.
It is sooooo nice having a handbrake that holds the ute!
