Been such a pain trying to do this thing in the hour of daylight I have after work each day. But finally painted now. Did an absolutely shocking job haha never painted anything with a spray gun. The first side I was very heavy handed! It almost looks like a water fall! The rest turned out pretty good once I got the feel for it.
Hopefully I can sand and polish it out!


Also did all the prewiring for the tail lights to go on the bar And for the two extra reverse lights to be mounted underneath on the tow bar brackets. I was abit worried about the extra load these would put on the reverse light circuit as I wasn’t going to run a seperate feed and relay so started looking at low wattage reverse bulbs then come across the bargain of the century and got a whole replacement tail light set instead.
Just a slight modification. They had a resister on the indicator globes to stop the quick flash. I’ve already replaced the flasher unit to an led flasher and know how hot these resisters get so I removed them.

They are machter tail lights off eBay wasn’t sure if I liked them at first but they are growing on me!
Managed to get the bar mounted, still wiring the lights and need to run the hose through the bar and mount the tap but this is basically the end look!
Oh and mud flaps too

Thanks mate! Not too sure on that one yet. Only been out for the weekend with them went past a few of the boys in blue, but all going the opposite way. I’m not looking forward to the day I do get pulled up though [emoji53]
I might put one side back to the normal ones and take some pics, I’m not 100% on the black yet

Ran the hose through the bar and mounted the tap yesterday evening, and here’s some pictures of the number plate bracket I made with some lights to come on with the tail lights. And also the locking mechanism I made to lock the door in the open position

Yes good luck, they actually look very legit with brake lights on so suggest just leave your foot on the brake pedal or lights on if you do get pulled over.

Not a problem! this forum was the reason I decided to do something different and give it a crack myself. And I enjoy seeing what and how people have done things.
Overall I’m pretty happy with the end result but of coarse as always there is some things I would do differently. Mainly just due to my inexperience never having welded or painted anything before.
First of all I would have made the base of the rear bar protrude abit further away from the vehicle. One so I had abit more space to bring the hose and cables up between the stub axle and the tail light. As it gets slightly squashed when the door is open.
Two so that I could have made the door sit completely above the rear bar as at the moment it hangs over it

And three so that there is abit more space between the tail gate and the the door when it’s closed as there’s only abit 20mm at the moment. Probably enough, but if I cop a decent wack in the rear it will flex/ bend enough to hit.

I also should have worked out the latch before I decided placement of the wheel and max trax holder. I was planning on having the latch the other way around but this wouldn’t have worked because the max trax holder was in the way to open it. It only just clears now and is abit of a PITA but it does work.
So yeah I definitely should have thought that out abit more.


Also I measure and welded everything without taking into consideration the weight of the max trax holder and spare wheel.
Once loaded up the door had abit of flex and I lost the space I was going to put rubber in where the latch clamps onto the bar.
So I have to get the oxy out and heat and bent the door to gain back the clearance.
This meant the latch is now on the piss.
Again it still works but would have also changed that!
This is the rubber buffer and some pics of her open!


If anyone is interested in anything more in particular let me know and I can get some pictures or try to explain [emoji23] definitely no expert and she gets rougher the closer you look but it survived it first trip and didn’t fall apart thank god!

what did you use for the main bar for the rear bar ? is is tube or angle? Couldn’t really tell.
if only I had a tub sometimes [emoji28]

I hadn’t noticed but you have the foxwing?
I’d been searching high and low of someone that had one mounted on a dual cab,
But went and got batwing anyways, I’m not sure if I’ve mounted it in a grey spot on my car. but it has held up !

Mate that has really come up well, bloody good effort!

I'm not personally a fan of having things hanging off the back but I might do something similar for extra protection around the rear (after the 1/4 chop and many other things on the list hahaha). It does look bloody good though. Looks like you really maximise your use of space in the back too. Awesome work.

So inside I’ve used the original towbar and just modified the brackets that bolt to the chassis to raise it.
Then the shell I guess you’d call it ( the bit you see) started out as a length of 100x100mm box section and I hacked it all up to get the shapes I needed for each surface.

Yeah mate its actually got three snapped poles that are held together at the moment by sticks and cable ties [emoji23]
Big gust of wind blew through before I tied it down when we were in the beach and folded it over on itself. Was the first time I ever opened it too!
Been tossing up weather or not to spend the money and get a “pole less” one that doesn’t need pole or tie downs.
But they are definitely the go! So much more shade than the side awning I used to have.
And also I mainly wanted to cover the back for when I setup camp.

The weather has been pretty touch and go here aswell little bit warmer though [emoji12]
