Cheers yes I guess the 318 pads are big enough.

As for the rear drums, I wouldn't bother because yours are the same as mine and I'm happy with the braking, and even tested them with the caravan attached and brake controller off, all good so I'm not sure you can do much better on the rear. I can't see any benefit in changing the rears to disc, the main advantage with disc is they are less prone to fade but they need higher brake force.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Great find with the pads, I’ll be adding this to my list.

TRS build

Got into do finish off the sound deadening on sunday. I previously did all the doors

Ideally I would have liked an entire layer over the entire cab, but I ran out. So didn’t get to do the foot wells.
I focused on the mainly the rear and the firewall as that’s where I could hear the most road noise coming from.
ImageImage
Made a huge difference!!
I didn’t really notice much difference doing the doors alone.
For anyone doing this I would recommend focus on the rear and the firewall. Maybe even try two layers. As I still feel that’s where the last of the sound is coming through.

Also I got a full 3 inch exhaust to replace my dodgy muffler delete pipe.
The 3 dump pipe bolts where it joins onto the turbo were TIGHT!!
The wrong end cracked on one of them and the whole thread came out haha

Anyway, I’d had enough by that point so I packed up, fitted the dump pipe and the rear section, just need to put the middle in. I’ll do that tomorrow arv and take her for a test run.
Interesting to see if it lowers EGTs and what the performance difference is like. I’ve heard mixed reviews... good and bad

Got the rest of the exhaust in, its a piece of cake once you get the old dump pipe off!
Here’s a few picks.
Decided not to get a painted one because it’s going to have mud and dirt over it it’s whole life.
And also decided not to go stainless because I have heard of them cracking easy.
Plus how much more they were. I can’t believe how cheap this one was! I know it’s not pretty but does the job! Best to save the dollars for something else anyway
Here’s some pics,
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I got a kit where you can just buy the section with the muffler/hotdog/straight pipe in case I wasn’t happy with the sound or got over it.
Started with the the hot dog for now so I’ll see how it goes.
And havent taken it for a drive yet, its f$@&n hot up here so I went for a swim instead
Tomorrow will be the day!

So took Luxy for a drive. Sounds a little louder but has a deeper and smoother note.
Its heaps quieter in the cab, Think this is mainly because it goes all the way to the back now where as before it was dumping before the diff, so closer to the cab.
Hard to say completely caus its pissing down rain here so everytime I give it some the wheels spin.
But initial thoughts aren't good....

Before when I held out gears On slight uphill boost would peak at 21psi on that drive I couldn't get it over 15psi.
Also it doesn't seem to pull as hard either.
The only positive I noticed is that the boost seems to come on fractionally earlier.
EGT's are about the same, slightly lower( but it is raining )

Maybe its just me.. who else has a 3 inch exhaust and what are your thoughts?

21psi is high id think. Ive never seen more than 16ish before and after I made my 3inch pipe. Ya pipe shouldn't have changed the boost.

Yeah that’s what I thought cause I was reading people were getting around 14psi max.
Gauge warning is set at 20psi as I can hit it every gear change if I try.
Now the highest I could get it was 16 and the Ute feels very sluggish.

I thought if anything the larger exhaust would allow higher boost ..

I have a steinbauer and EGR plate install so not sure if that effects boost.
But the 3 inch feels like it’s killed my Ute

Some do report a little loss of bottom end but the boost thing is odd. Most I've heard of hitting 21psi is from a dodgy stepper motor and causes a limp mode from overboost.

Hmm, does seem strange..
It’s Never gone into limp mode and the only code it’s thrown was when I did the EGR clean and forgot to plug the fuel rail pressure sensor back in.
I will put my old exhaust back on tonight and see if it goes back to normal. If it does I’ll throw this junk in the bin.

I’m just blaming the exhaust at the moment caus the utes been running like that since I put the gauges in and now it’s not and the only thing that’s changed is the exhaust

And brakes and dynamat, not that they should slow you down (well the brakes should!). May be a coincident problem but swapping the exhaust back will show that up. Can you add some objective testing, like timed acceleration or holding on steep hill?

Hahah call.
Yeah crit over the weekend I will do some timed runs with both exhausts.
Also take some pics/videos of boost difference

Trust me Tyler, just let your engine Rev a little, the 3" exhaust isn't the problem except for a little back pressure

Yet again , nice work Tyler always look forward to seeing the new additions.

About your issues with exhaust..I’ve been running SS 3 inch with no cat & muffler for couple years now and it improved just about everything no issues whatsoever.
However that’s not to say it’s not the issue here..Interesting how some are affected and some aren’t.
Let us know how things go

What brand of dynamat did you use and are you still happy with your choice or brand?

Hey Cam, the brand is pingjing this is the pack that I bought,
https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/5-76-sqm-60-f ... Sw409Zv5ye

Yeah I’m very happy with it.
Having used dynamat before and then this, honestly I couldn’t tell the difference.
Maybe the rubber is a different compound? Not sure but it too close for me to pick any difference.
And at less than half the price this is the clear winner for me

TRS build

Postby Tyler1993 on Fri, 26 Jan 2018 7:26 +0000

Okay so after testing both exhausts I’ve decided to go back to stock exhaust with the muffler delete pipe.

I carried out a series of tests.
Under exactly the same conditions, even topped the tank up before each run.
Here are the results. Keep in mind the Km’s won’t be accurate because my speedo is out 10ks @60 and 15ks @100.

I did each test 5 times and then worked out the average.
I decided to do rolling starts to eliminate the wheel spin on take off.

10klm - 80klm (with gear changes)
3”: 11.99seconds 2.5”: 10.8
EGTs: 450 for both

40klms - 80klms (3rd gear no change)
3”: 9.66seconds 2.5”: 8.5seconds
EGTs: 500 for both

40klms - 100klms (3rd gear no change)
3”: 14.5seconds 2.5”: 13.57seconds
EGTs: 550 for both.

80klms - 100klms (4th gear no change)
3”: 9 seconds 2.5”: 7.9seconds
EGTs: 550 for both

80klms - 120klms (4th gear no change)
3”: 17.7 seconds 2.5”: 16.91 seconds
EGTs: 3”: 550 2.5”: 575

Looking at the results across all tests the smaller exhaust out performed every time. Besides the 2.5” getting hotter on the last run EGTs remained the same throughout.
Also my boost is back to 20psi with the 2.5 back on.

TRS build

Postby Tyler1993 on Fri, 26 Jan 2018 7:33 +0000

I temporarily joined the end of the 3 inch to the back of the 2.5 setup and took it for a drive as well.
No difference in performance but it takes the noise to the back so it’s quieter in the cab and also gives it that bit deeper note.
So I might cut the 2.5 before the cat and join on the 3 inch from there so I essentially have a 2.5” dump pipe with a 3” system.

Also an update on the brakes.
They seem to be getting better with every drive! They must be bedding in. Feel very confident braking now
