Hi all,
First off the bat I just want to say this is an awesome source of information, it has already helped me so much.
So props to the members and admin for such a great job.

I previously owned a Rodeo (it was my first 4wd don't crucify me for it) I actually purchased my first Hilux about 6 months ago and have been eagerly getting to work on it so haven't even thought of making one of these threads, but I thought I'd start one because. Well why not!

Im a sparky by trade and spend my weekends fishing and getting as far away from civilisation as possible.
Anyway the goal Is not to make anything too crazy. For example I'm not planning an SAS. But I do want to make a very capable lux that stands out and a few extra horses wouldn't go astray either :P
I love doing new things and give everything a crack myself, and am happy to answer any questions as so many of you have done for me already.
So sit back and watch this space! ( like I said I bought the lux awhile ago so the first few post will progress quick until I catch up!
Thanks guys!

So this was the rig when I got her already has a reasonable list of mods
- 2 inch lift
- snorkel
- BFG 32 inch muddies
- $3000 sounds system [emoji1]
- Dual batterys
- arb compressor
- rear arb locker
- arb spotties
- long rang tank

It did not stay like this for long...

So I went to reverse the hilux into the garage for the first time with the rear canopy window up... F*$&#^ing glass everywhere.
so the first thing on the list was to remove the canopy.

Installed a diff drop kit off ebay, the full arm replacement type not the spacer kit

And received my new front struts and buds bash plates to suit the diff drop
Decided on the Dobinsons MRR after hours of frustrating research, everyone has a completely different opinion on all the brands. I have a mate who has a ranger and runs them, he is happy with them. So thats the way I went

Installed the Dobinsons, first side was a prick to get in.
They are slightly longer that the previous EFS struts that were in there and I was having a hell of a time trying to pop the bottom of the strut into the lower control arm.
the solution I found for this was to pull the upper control arm and with a large flathead screwdriver off the top of the UCA
lever the spring, compressing the top part of the spring and thus shortening the overall length.
also spent alot of time working out where to mount the remote reservoir. Once I worked that out the other side only took about 30 mins

Next thing to arrive were the new headlights
Bought these of ebay aswell from mars performance
Went in very easy with the help of my apprentice

Image

After first testing these lights I thought they were crap, but after abit of playing around I found they actually threw good light when slightly removed from the lamp holder. Knowing they couldn't be deigned like this I contacted mars performance and it turns out they sent the wrong bulbs.
Bit of a dick around but good thing was they said I could keep the original bulbs which are actually for the highbeam.
So Now Ill have HID high and low beams [emoji1]

So a couple more things have come, Got some SR5 flares from utemart, awesome fit and easy as to install.
Weather shields and bonnet protector off ebay. complete opposite to the flares. on the bonnet protector the holes don't line up and the little clips it came with just slide off. so Iv'e drilled out the holes and mounted it, the sides are taped down for now [emoji1] just untill I fab up my own clips.
Also got some cheap sunnies with a 0 offset just to fill out the flares (will be getting some alloy rims eventually, open to suggestions!!)

Image

Also picked up a couple of sports bars cheap as chips and toying of what I want to do

Thinking of just running a single bar at the back and getting them powdercoated black

So the ARB bar FINALLY arrived 9 weeks and multiple phone calls and emails, I was told 2 and a half weeks when I ordered.
So I was less than impressed, didn't even so much as get a "sorry about the delay" out of anyone.
Will not be purchasing anything through ARB again.

Paint prep before the bar went on
ImageImage

The shell fitted without anything in it
ImageImage

The bullbar wasn't too bad to fit, alot of different parts but the instructions were good and everything fit well

Winch from the supacentre fitted, I know theyre cheap and nasty but I had one on my old car and it copped an absolute flogging, was never washed or maintained and it never let me down. we'll see how this one goes!
Had to rotate the clutch housing around so I could grab it easily through the hole in the bullbar

Image
ImageImage

Had to get an offset fairlead as the normal one that came with the winch overlapped the cutout for the rope in the bullbar, meaning it would rub on the bar rather than the fairlead.

So the useless Pr*$%s at ARB told me when I ordered my bar that I was getting this style for the indicator/fog lights,

Image
So I ordered some of these foglights to suit.

AS you can see, the bar that came was the "newer style
ARB In there wisdom have created a obscure shaped foglight for their new bar and yep It's the only one that will fit
So I'm going to have to eat my words and make another trip down to ARB to buy their F&$^n foglights :(

On another note I now have a brand new set of those STEDI foglights still in the box for the older style arb bars if anyone wants them for $100 I paid $180 new

Another gripe about ARB
The bullbar loop doesn't even come with an antenna mount WTF $2400 for a bullbar and they can't even put an antenna mount on the loop!!
Anyway a quick trip down to our local aluminium fabricators sorted that out.
If anyones in cairns and needs anything done, would highly recommend the boys down at NORWELD

Going to get this loop powdercoated black with the sportsbars

So I couldn't help myself, decided to do the quarter chop. I know I know its a bit barbaric but both my quarters were dinted and I'm still undecided weather I'm even going to keep the tub or if i'm going to get a tray
So here it is!
ImageImageImage

Need to get to work designing and making a rear bar to suit the chop as it looks a little bare at the moment [emoji1]

Looks good mate. For future reference the fog lights for those are and exact copy of the factory sr5 fog light, arb have been using them for years!
