Central locking stopped working on my eBay key, according to my post above I got 8 months out of it. Replaced the battery (3V CR2032), still didn’t work so reconnected the key in beeper and did the chicken dance half dozen times. eBay key wouldn’t set programming mode so I used the original key, set to program mode and held both buttons on the eBay key.
Didn’t give the acknowledgement but is working now.
Old CR2032 still reading 2.9V so not sure if that was the problem. Guess we’ll see how long it lasts this time.

40L Engel replaces the esky. Perfect fit. Was concerned about noise because it’s right next to me head when I sleep, but I have to listen for it to know it’s running.
125A VSR kit from Jaycar was $150, 105AH deep cycle battery $190 from Repco, battery box $22 and fridge $1350 from BCF.

Installed the ARB recovery point scored from Marty at a very reasonable price (thanks mate!).
Wondering which side to install, but in the end the bent side won.

Might cut a slot in the stock scrub pan and refit it until proper bash plates come along.

Not directly Hilux, but here by extension.

The suspension lift and draw bar mod meant the tow angle for the tinnie was terrible.
After 15 years the boat trailer needed some love, did a full respray and improve off-road ability. Sits a lot more level now, much easier to reverse when you can see the back of it.

Few rust spots on the roof and passenger A pillar that needed addressing before the roof rack goes on.

Rhino rack channels are in. If you look close enough you can see some spray can spatter, but I’m not concerned, as long as the rust is contained.

Still debating the rhino platform vs a self made 25mm pipe + 50mm mesh steel job.
They don’t make the rhino platform in right sizes for the extra cab, but I reckon I could make it up from parts of two, assuming Rhino would sell as individual pieces.
Or just get some tube bent and weld it together.

Make one dude, easy to get so tube bent into a rectangular shape to the exact size you want. Any exhaust shop could do it. It'll be the size you want and far cheaper.

Bit of electrical today for the second battery.

Connected via Anderson plug so I can remove the whole thing from the car. Could even leave the fridge and battery running at camp to drop some weight to go wheeling.
2 cig plugs, double USB and Engel plug.
The USB is switched because they draw load even when there’s nothing connected, only a little but this gets parked up for weeks at a time between trips.
Fridge circuit is individually fused, the other three sockets share a fuse.

I like the protective sleeve around your AP cable

Under tray tool boxes today. 1.5mm is quite light, only 6kg each and supposedly rated to 50kg each.
They are a bit vulnerable in this location but will see how long they last.


Used 8mm cup head bolts to mount through the tray. Drilled the top hole 9mm and pulled/ bashed the square underside of the head in so it doesn’t turn.
Used 20x40 ally angle for load spreaders inside the boxes. Galv bolts and nylocs all round.

Hey Critter, how did you get the trailer to raise, did you flip the axle to underside or?

I have the same problem.

Yes, put the axle under the springs instead of on top. Also fit 14” wheels which gave about another 50mm clearance.

Great, thanks mate. You gave your trailer a real good Birthday. That video is excellent. Ill flip the axle and upgrade to larger wheels as you did. An extra 50mm clearance makes a big difference.

I just did the same as you with the undertray toolboxes, make a big difference for storage, behind my seat was like a Black Hole.

This hack might interest some people.
I like the length and weight of the ARB compressor hose, but not the fittings.
The tools I have at home have nitto fittings so they’re not interchangeable. Didn’t want hose clamps on the ARB hose and it’s an odd size so had trouble finding fittings.
Bought this powerfit hose from Bunnings for $16:
The powerfit pipe is slightly smaller OD than the ARB hose so had to polish it up a bit with the dremel, but it fits and is about as neat original.
The barb isn’t as convincing as ARB’s but I’ll see how it lasts, holding the pressure ok on the shed compressor.

Those Nitto fittings are great. I made up a couple of different end pieces so I can quickly swap between tyres, basketballs and a right-angle fitting for the pram (which I reckon the designer of the wheels spent a lot of time designing so that they would cause the most frustration possible when they needed to be pumped up). The quick fittings certainly makes these quick jobs less annoying.

The standard under bonnet connection to the ARB compressor is fine for pumping up the hilux wheels, but hose doesn’t reach to inflate the boat trailer without unhooking.
Sure I could get a longer hose or extension, but that’s more of a PITA each time I want to use it.
So the outlet (now nito of course) is relocated to the rear, between the tool box and tail light.
Bit agricultural, but does the job and operable with one hand.
