Nice! Dunno why they ever made those tweeter pods tho, males for a crappy sounds stage!

How do you mean Toyzx? I thought they were supposed to point at your head. This is a first sound system install for me.

You want ya tweeters as close to ya mid-drivers as possible. Sound from the mids and tweeters is happening at the same time so if ya tweeters are closer to your head the highs coming from them overpowers your mids cos the sounds doesn't have to travel as far. Make sense?

Are we talking volume or timing? The crossovers have jumpers for 0, 3 or 6 db so I assumed it was for adjusting volume based on location. Would need a DSP to adjust the timing though. Guess I'll find out next weekend how it sounds!

Amp didn't fit where I wanted it to so will build a box to hide it on the transmission tunnel behind front seats.

Finished the stereo install over the weekend. Scope creep took over, ended up dynamatting the whole interior, including inner and outer door skins:ImageImageImage
Rubber boot on gearshift was torn so replaced the gear stick, and pulled the top off the breather and fit a 5/16 fuel hose to the engine bay:
Image

The reverse cam has a couple of plugs down the back so sealed them with waterproof heat shrink, wrapped in split conduit and tape:
Image

Tweater in sail pods and mids in standard spots
Image

Amp in a temp box behind the seat:
Image

7" touch screen running Android 6.0
Image

Sits just in front of the dash. Would have preferred it sitting in flush but I'll get over it. Image

Pretty happy with the sound. Could really use some bass, and I'll play around with crossover tuning but compared to the intermittent stock radio, I'm loving it.

Already installed Torque and Hema. The pre installed iGo maps seems fair too.

Any app recommendations?

Awesome loving the progress so far.

I'm just about to do similar audio install, same tweeter pods. I agree, that they probably aren't the "best" place for sound stage but then a car isn't a good sound stage to begin l. In previous cars mounted in a similar spot hasn't been a problem for me and they look good and easy to install.

Re: tweater pods- acoustic guitar sounds amazing, like Jimmy Page's Emerald Eyes, or GnR Patience. Anything with hard symbols (Korn, Metallica) though feels like it's stabbing you in the eye. Can tone that down with EQ.
This is my first sound system other than replacing a head unit with a hand me down, so bit of a learning curve.

New suspension arrived today, looking forward to getting stuck in to that. Think I’ll need to take a quick cut to the archway once the lift is in. Without lift:Image

Ultimate Suspension, took advantage of their Spring Sale. 30mm lift because in WA we’re allowed a total of 50mm lift inclusive of tyres, but at the moment I’ve got 50mm sag (front, has about 10mm travel left) so should make a good difference.

Makings of a good weekend, at 210k:
Image

Replacing the steering knuckle was the hardest part, damaged the CV shaft seal, none in Rocko but Repco Mandurah came through.
Image

Wanted a 30mm lift over standard, but existing was pretty sagged. One of the front shocks had started leaking too. New Ultimate struts don’t seem much longer, but definitely sturdier.Image

Couple of before and afters:

Garage door is a problem:
Imagesolved with a couple of ratchet strapsImage
Still tight though:Image
I’ll be hiring a quick cut next weekend. Goodbye archway.

Thanks guys, I’m loving it. Don’t need the straps anymore either. ImageImage
I’ve put a pelmet up to cover the top of the roller door but it looks big like this.

With the new Ultimate suspension you'll be like "what speedbump?" rather than "ouch!".

Love how a build thread involves house modifications!

Minor install over the weekend, ally frame inside the canopy so I don’t have to put holes in the fibreglass. Image
Plan is for hammock netting at the top to hold a couple of towels, sand board and gold pans. Then mozzie net hanging underneath coz we like sleeping with the windows wide open.
Rail under the front window is to strap dive tanks.

New switch panel arrived today and fitted up. $65 off eBay Thailand seller, has Toyota branding on the inside, seems legit quality. It is a different colour but not that noticeable in situ and won’t bother me. Surprised the bottom passenger side switch cutout is smaller than the rest, is that normal? Have an idea of cutting the switch recess out of my old panel and epoxying in. Already ordered switches and have two horizontals coming so I’ll work something out. Image
Different shape than the SR plate, but with finished edges.
Image
Getting the cig lighter plug out took a few minutes to sort out, have to disassemble it piece by piece, the small plastic tab in pic centre holds the metal body into the plastic surround. Metal piece has to come out so the plastic tabs (below to the left of the first flap) that hold into the facia can depress.
Finished productImageImage

Going with Air On Board push style switches in green. I liked the graphics better than newpro - like the compressor icon and pole dancer ‘party lights’ switch. Better priced too, I’ll post em up when they arrive.

Time for an update on the Ultimate Suspension, I’ve done 1500km now and is settling in.
Hit the 1000k mark at Hamlin Bay last weekend, so re-torqued in the carpark. Surprised how much I got out of the U bolts on the leaf springs. Image

I’m only looking for a 25-30mm lift above standard, but the old suspension was pretty well sagged so was expecting it to step up a bit.
Heights (bottom of 15” rim to top of guard or tray).

Front drivers Start: 685mm, new 765mm, now 760mm
Front pass: 670, 760, 730
Driver rear 760, 850, 843
Pass rear 760, 848, 843

This is without my 108kg in the seat so I’m guessing that will even things up.

Very happy, very stable and confidence enhancing. Feel like attacking roundabouts instead of rolling through them. Still a bit stiff in the rear but ally tray and ‘glass canopy are very light, pretty sure will settle more which is fine and I’ll have diving and camping gear in most of the time. CV’s are good angle, I reckon the sway bay rubbed slightly on the spring twice early on hasn’t since.

Not happy with the tow angle of the tinny, but I’ll play around some more.Image
