Fish's build

Postby fish351 on Thu, 30 Jun 2016 11:32 +0000

Just making a post to keep track of what I've been doing.
I'm currently working on a new tray, replacing the one-size-fits-most-things-kinda-but-doesnt-fit-anything-properly tray that came with it.
2009 D4D SR. Ute was from the auctions, ex Vic govt DELWP or whatever they call it this year. Bought it Jan 2015.

Image

Then the mods bug bit. Ironman bullbar, lights UHF, you get the idea.
Image

Dual batt system installed.
Image

I hated the alloy tray and so I began amassing some tools to rectify the situation. Cue the first project - home made welder trolley
Image

More to come soon

Sure has.

Here's some shots of the tray.

Don't have a welding table (yet) so it's the floor or bust.

Then I got excited last week and went bobtail
Image

Dirty as buggery so out came the pressure washer
Image

Now I just need a kidney transplant due to bouncing on the goat tracks that we call roads.

Here's a pic of just dropping the tray on the chassis for a giggle
Image

I see some shed time in my near future to make chassis mounts for the tray bit.

Trial fit and tack, joining the rear chassis mounts to the front pair behind the cab.
I'm doing this by myself so note the ratchet straps holding the 2 50mm SHS bearers down while I slide it up and on.

The bearers are tacked to the frame mounts. gonna finish that welding off this arvo then it's beer time.

Yeah it's quite an art. There are a few variables in it, but once you get the right settings for the material you're joining you can get into a bit of a groove. I'm definitely a learner but it's fun. Except when you get a chunk of molten slag down the front of your boot. Then you become a one man flash mob.

Next step is to get the headboard sorted out, then attach the floor bit to the frame in the pics above.
After that it will be the rope/spew rails and sides.
Boxes around the tail lights.
Get it blasted and painted.
Install the rear lights and number plate.
Mudguards.
Then the floor and timber in the headboard.

Shit it looks like a big job when you put it into a list.

Roger that. I did turn the heat down earlier to do some end plates. Didn't turn it up again and look what I got. Managed to burn my right hand however...
Bed is high but I'll be happy once the drawer is in. The drawer seems taller than others I've seen on utes getting around. Too fkn late to pull out now anyway [emoji1]

Working on the head board now.
Angles are annoying. Making them harder is the fact that my new dropsaw seems to have a slanted blade meaning (cuts even straight 90 degree cuts) are not coming out straight. It seems to cut left to right by about 5 degrees. Makita.
Gave me the shits enough that I tried to take it back today but total Tools closed. Grr
Working around that by angling the right side of the material higher than the left so that the blade goes down perpendicular. FFS.

Anyway
