The Durry's SR Build

Thought I should start this off before I get too carried away. Been reading up on here for a few months now whilst looking for a clean facelifted model with low km's in my budget.

Ended up buying this one last weekend, 2011 MY12 SR with 104,xxx on the clock, completely stock apart from Genuine Canopy and Tow-bar. Exactly what I was looking for so I can do it myself and know that it's all done properly.

Long term plan is an alloy tray and canopy with a roof top tent and camping setup for touring, however these things tend to have a mind of their own so we'll see where it all ends up.

Got a few things on order already and it won't look like this for long, already fitted a pair of Rhino Rack Heavy Duty bars and a cheap 4wd Supa Centre awning that I had lying around.

Also have these sitting around waiting to be installed, Saturday looks like rain all day so I might spend the day in the garage. Love the service from Baileys, ordered these after picking the car up Saturday afternoon and they were here on Tuesday!

Oil catch can and secondary fuel filter. That's Saturday's job.

Got the catch can fitted in, had to get a little creative when routing the breather pipes, the one in the instructions is pre-ABS.

Image

It's a tight squeeze but it's not actually touching as it goes through there. I'll keep an eye on it and get something to wrap it in if it's going to be a problem.

Image

With 6 bolts holding the bracket in place I don't think it's going anywhere!

Image

Both fitted with the intercooler back on and all back together in a couple of hours. Definitely some of the easiest instructions you'll ever follow!

Hey Durry,
Be interested to here your feed back on the bailys catch can, does it make a noise like the Provent one as it looks very similar in design?

To be honest, I really haven't driven that far yet mate. My understanding of the noise was that it all depended on how you mounted the drain hose and tap, I haven't done much with mine yet, just tucked it out of the way until I find a permanent solution.

Got the snorkel fitted up today, although once I got started I kind of forgot to stop and take any photos.

Taped up and stencil applied.

The finished product.

Going to let it sit overnight to let all the silicon dry completely before I start her up.

Next up; seat covers, diff breather kit, stereo and UHF (not necessarily in that order).

Got the new head unit in today, just wired it up the the factory front speakers for now, I have a 4 channel amp, and new speakers for the doors ready to go in but that's all going to have to wait until I have a little more time.

Sorry about the photo quality, I seem to be always working on the ute at night in the dark so progress shots never come out great.

Horrible rainy day here so I've been in the garage. Got a Uniden UH5060 the other day so I put that in, it's just tucked in front of the 4x4 lever for now so I can still hear that speaker as well as the one on the handset.

Image

Image

Came in a kit with a 300mm antenna, I'll get a bigger one eventually but I've just stuck it on the front until I get the bullbar on.

Image

Pulled the head unit out again too. Hooked it up to the handbrake (limited functionality without it) and got the steering wheel controls connected and working. Decided that while it was out I might as well put a reverse camera in at the same time. Still need to sort out exactly what angle it sits at and it's slightly off-centre so it doesn't interfere with the spare tyre winder hole.

Image

Nicely tucked up out of the way.

Finally got a chance to take the car out and use it with a quick trip over to Moreton Island for the weekend. Was quite surprised how well the standard skinny tyres did when dropped to 18 psi, I still plan on replacing them, but it's obviously not as urgent as I thought. All other mods are on hold for now anyway as I'm now moving up to Townsville earlier than originally planned.

Lining up for the Micat.

Quick stop at the wrecks, way too cold for snorkeling.

Image

Camp on the first night.

Image

View from my swag on Saturday morning, absolutely loved waking up to this.

Image

Before you know it it's time to go home.

Been pretty quiet on the hilux front lately while I've been moving house. Now that I'm here though I've just knocked out one of the best and easiest mods you'll ever do; pair of bonnet struts in.

Nice work on the struts, where did you get them from? And did you use preexisting bolts holes or did you have to drill new ones?
Cheers

Just eBay ones. They use pre-existing bolts and come with vehicle specific mounting points on each end.
