The build of Blute. The blue SR5.

Well I thought I'd start a build thread. This is Blutes first day at home:

2015 SR5 Manual TD. Bought with rubber mats, tints and weathershields. Not many left of them in dealerships.

A few days later and time for the first mod. 150 GXL Prado wheels. Something to set it aside from other SR5s plus they are easier to clean and come in a set of 5 to aid in tyre rotations

Took off the rear step and installed a genuine SR towbar kit. Also test fitted a temporary number plate obscuring system.
Now I can hook up the trailer to go and pick up my alloy tray

Yep bar work is definitely on the cards. Still weighing up which brand. Was thinking ARB deluxe but should I colour code or not? Is bar steps and side bars all in blue too much?. Won't do steps and side rails till a bit later though.

Next planned mods are genuine alloy tray and then a jack off alloy canopy. Planning the low range 2wd switch soon too.

your call on the colour coding..but bar seems to get the most pin stripes.. i had the grey to suit then swapped for black.. easier to maintain!!either that or reverse from the lantana!!!!

The wheels cost me $57500 driveaway cause they were attached to a brand new Prado in 2012! Seriously though, they go for about $1500 - $2000 for a set on Ebay. I put the Prado rims on cause I got a great deal on a set of FJ Cruiser wheels and tyres which I then put on the Prado. I would have put them straight on the Hilux but the offset difference means it's not quite legal plus I think they would be out past the guards. Prado wheels on Hilux and FJ wheels on Prado mean that both vehicles have slight track width increases and everything stays legal. Now to sell the SR5 wheels to help pay for some new rubber!

haha, Cheers mate, I like the prado rims, and I think the Toyo stuff is generally better quality than what you can get aftermarket anyways! I might even go price a set up at my local and see what the damage is! I look forward to seeing what your build turns out to be mate

Took the tub off and replaced it with a genuine alloy tray. The tray came as a flat pack so still got the mud guards and tail light brackets to put on

It's a 'genuine' Toyota tray which is actually made by Triple M Truck bodies in QLD. It is just as solid as most other heavy duty alloy trays that I looked at and worked out cheaper than most tray providers in Sydney. I did like the Obrien trays but they were big $$$$$.

Cost was around $1800 for the tray and another $500 for the conversion kit which includes locking fuel cap/neck and tail lights. Probably could have saved a bit by not buying the conversion kit and using aftermarket tail lights as the Toyota ones are $320 a pair. Oh well, the genuine stuff does fit well though.

I have a spacecab one of these trays, they are quite well built for an alloy flat pack tray. I am replacing mine with a steely though.

Yep bought from Phil McCarroll Toyota. I get trade pricing but I've noticed some dealerships that sell genuine parts on Ebay give anyone trade pricing when you walk in.

As I mentioned the tray is quite solid but geeze I'm getting sick of doing up M6 nuts and bolts on it. They use so many of them on the tray. 38 of them just for the mud guard/wheel arches!

One thing that is not included is a bracket for converting the reverse camera from tailgate to tray. Could anyone with a genuine tray and genuine reverse camera post a close up photo showing the bracket that holds the camera to tray? The Toyota website isn't much help.

OK finished off the tray by moving the reverse camera a bit further back so i can see the towbar and tail lights in the screen for reference. Also added genuine reverse sensors.
