Just bumping this thread back up to the top for discussion......

Shane, did you ever get around to getting measurments for the chassis for that trailer just in case any of us might want to copy cat your trailer?

If you could pick up a reasonably cheap tub from ebay or somewhere....the trailer build would be a lot cheaper than buying an offroad box trailer....

Shane, what would you say your totoal expence building this trailer has been, If I may ask?

Max to date it owes me just on $2k thats with rego, matching wheels, tool box the lot, the still more i want to do to it but i've been a bit busy getting the house ready for the little one.

I haven't got around to jotting down all the mesurements yet (i forgot all about it to tell the truth), i'll see if i can find time on the weekend.

Here's how its looking at the moment.

Thanks for that Shane....are you happy you chose the extra cab tub or in hindsight would a single cab tub have been better/,ore practical?

2grand aint bad....to buy it would have cost alot more.....

Shane, I was reading at the start of the forum that the trailer weighed 400kg over the pits. In QLD, the max weight for an unbraked trailer is 750kg GVM. Do these same laws apply in ACT, and to any other state? Thanks Luke

Max the extra cab length suits me fine for what i want to eventually do with it, the single cab tubs would give more length but you can't get them in sr5 which means no flares and i wanted it to match the ute so...

sqiud_87, thats the same as down here so at the moment its only legal for 350kg payload until I put brakes on it and get the gvm bumped up

What brakes are you looking at running? As for your hubs, are they a 6 stud cruiser hub? Thanks Luke

I want to put a hard cover on it and then get canvas made to go between the hard cover and the tub when its open if that makes sense (it makes sense in my head anyway  ), but i'm having trouble finding a hard cover thats not an SR5 one, and theres no way i'm going to buy a new one, if I don't find one soon i'll make a canopy like the one i built for my last hilux.

Interesting buildup, have you considered using the fuel filler cover on the trailer to hide a fill point for a water tank slung underneath or mounted anywhere in the trailer??

You should be able to pick up a tank from Camec http://www.camec.com.au for about $100 and also look at Ovesco http://www.ovesco.com.au and Dolium (who are available through Opposite Lock) http://www.dolium.com.au for more elaborate versions. One of those suppliers will have the right tank for you.

Bourbydol, yeah mate i have acctually allready installed the cable and hidden the the end of it to open the fuel release door and put a clean water only sticker on the inside of the door and i'm on the lookout for a suitable water tank, Great minds and all that hey!!!,
Thanks for that rod i'll have a look.
On another note i made up some brakets and fitted the toyota factory shockies a couple of weeks back.

Nice going. How much weight do you reckon you can put into it now?

I'm thinking of building a 7x4 heavy duty box trailer using the standard SR rims and putting braked hubs, following something similar with shocks and springs. Reckon I'll be able to hit the 2 ton bracket?
Cheers,
Luke
