Hi guys,
Well this is my new wheels, 2006 D4D dual cab, ex-mines car so it's a bit beat up and needs some tlc, but got it cheap, so far it looks like it needs a new clutch, slipping a little, got an oil leak/weep on front diff where the axle comes out, has got a winch bar though and aftermarket cruise control...
Will be mainly used for camping, touring and hunting, still got my SWB mav/patrol for the rough stuff..

Things to do soon..
2" spring lift
mags
sidesteps
winch
tint the windows
build an alloy lift off camping canopy
dual batteries and solar

Any advice on things to do or look out for most welcome, let the fun begin..

Cheers Mick .....

Well finally installed my new stereo, Pioneer touch screen with reverse camera.

Thanks to all the info on this forum, which made it easier,
like where to find the reverse wire behind the glove box etc...
Not a bad sound with just the front speakers,
when I get around to doing the back ones should sound even better,
not to fussed about an amp..
Now just need to fill in the gaps either side of head unit..

G'day bloke, how do you find the glare on the screen? Easy to read in sunlight or annoying :? :?:

Auto barn sell "ears" for the side of your head unit. Have them on a few of the headunits I've installed.

Hey oggy, not to bad so far, direct sun light makes it a bit hard to see... might look at putting a hood on it if need be..

G'day Smurfgq,
I also have the same model, ex mines, except for the trayback and it has been a good reliable unit. I have done a few mods but have kept it legal, just a 2" lift and 31" muddies for trips. I usually run 245/70 AT's around town to save fuel. The first issue I had though was the camber pins were seized in and could not be adjusted. They needed to be cut out & replaced before getting my new tyres so I didn't scrub them out. Also check out your chassis rails and get all the coal out. It may take a while, I had the black crap still falling out for a year or so after buying mine. If you intend to do any water crossings you might want to put bungs in the holes left behind after the roll cage was removed. I found out the hard way as the holes in the mats were hidden by that magic repair stuff when I bought mine and she started to fill with water fairly quickly. You'll probably find everything you touch behind the dash will have a layer of black dust on as well. Mine was low mileage and even with all my mods I have still come out less expensive than buying a newer cleaner unit. All the best with it and I hope you are as lucky as I have been with mine. There are some on the forum not so fortunate with ex-mines Hilux's.

Cheers mut59,

Yeah full of dust behind dash, chassis has got coal dust which I'm trying to clean out, no internal roll bar fitted by the looks, going to put a 2" lift and 31's on it was going to get the front end checked soon as well, need to do a few more mods then I'll be happy..

Finally got a bit more done to the lux, now has tinted windows, a 4Terrain 275mm clutch, snorkel and 2" lift done (RAW shocks & Struts, king coils, EFS leafs), have got the winch but not fitted yet, just need to get some mags for it not sure to go 15" or 16" yet.

With tint done and still on standard springs.

With 2" lift and snorkel fitted, lifted the back about 3" and the front by almost 4" must have been really shagged..

New tyres and some SR5 rims on now...
Got my hands on the SR5 rims cheap, $300 with caps and nuts and no marks on them.. with 50% tyres on them.. suit trailer spares..
Tyres are 31/10.5/15's Achilles Desert Hawk X- MT , muddies are a bit noisy but not to bad.. had bighorns last time..

Been awhile so thought I might do an update, have now started on an alloy lift off tool box/camper on the back, alloy tig welding is a bit different than mig welding steel lol, I'm about half way thru, just have to make up the rig to bolt on the roof top tent and finish off the middle section, will end up cutting thru and making front section open from side to side and enclosing the rest.. when I get my tig back ended up frying it :x , have got some new jacks to lift off the frame, ones on there now just so I can work on it..
