julz's new hilux v2.0. raised tow bar and led lights

Postby 06lux on Sun, 15 Feb 2015 4:10 +0000

time to part ways with the old hilux and start fresh again but this time in a diesel dual cab.

its a 2010 dual cab d4d with only 57thou km's long range tank, internal roll cage and bulbar

plans for it at the moment is strip everything off the old lux, like suspension, lights, external protection, audio system and put it on the new one to save me a bit of coin. future plans is to chip and exhaust it, xrox bullbar, window tint, audio system and a rack set up for the rtt

Looks good and a great base to start. Should take it to just auto for some power instead of a chip.

got a few more things done over the past week. had a rain day friday so i installed all the audio stuff, amps behind the back seat sub at the moment is behind drivers seat until i make a proper box for it, and i got a new single din kenwood head unit with pocket underneath. sounds awesome.
also did the back seat mod, super easy and crap load of storage space for whatever gets thrown back there and forgotten..
removed side steps today, didn't get a chance to put the sliders on it. not looking forward to it because of the long range tank being in the way
rear leafs from ultimate suspension rocked up to. and got both luxies booked in next tuesday to get all the fun stuff swapped over
cannot wait to see the new one finished'

forgot to get a photo of the head unit

Suspension I'm sticking with 2.5" front and 2" at the rear. And for now I'm keeping the same rim and tyre combo witch is 265/75/16 until they wear out the go a 33" tyre most likely

Drives real nice too.
Got to say I am loving the leafs from ultimate. Barely sagged with a 600kg trailer on it and normal driving its comfy as.

It's looking great Julz. Well done.
Particularly like the Dual diaphragm brake booster & braided lines photos

You're in a good position to compare the two, petrol v diesel. What are your thoughts re pros/cons of each?

Haha sorry was going to email you. It was just easier to get it all done there. Every day it was at the mechanics I wasn't at work.

Petrol
Pros. Great fun to drive heaps of power. Sounds awesome with an exhaust and beach driving is great fun. Seeing the look on commodore drivers when i flog them off the mark
Cons. Terrible fuel economy with all the extras. Sluggish bellow 2500rpm. And the price of fuel

Diesel
Pros. The torque is great because I tow a heavy trailer every day. Cruises on the highway a lot nicer. Fuel economy is awesome and cheap fuel.
Cons. Not as quick off the mark to overtake suddenly when that nice person cuts you off on the highway going 20kms slower. Not much else yet really.

Re: julz's new hilux other bits and pieces now on

Postby 06lux on Mon, 23 Mar 2015 4:50 +0000

got a fair bit of other stuff sorted out on the ute the last 2 weeks. got the sliders, bash plate, roll bar, flares and some aesthetically pleasing things put on it.

managed to give all the bar work a lick of satan black while i had the gun out spraying the camping trailer (will post photos of this when its all together)
went with ute marts 55mm flares, they look really good and cover 265 easily. would easily cover a 305 i recon. the rubber seal is ordinary to say the least if the flare isn't tight on the body. have to send a front flare back because no matter how hard i try it won't form to the body.
had some fun with plasti dip and dipped my front grill white and the bits between the door windows black.

Wanting to mount a fuse block in the engine bay and run everything through that. My question is how do I know what size fuse to use for say constant power to a dual cig lighter socket or to a light rack with 2 x 170 spotlights and a small light bar.

P=I×V. P is watts.I is current (fuse amperage) and V is voltage (12). You know the watts and V is constant therefore you divide the watts you haveby the constant 12 and you get the current (fuse) you need.Remember ALWAYS the fuse is to protect the supplying wire so use appropriate wires for the current you have.the thicker the better is my advice

Re: julz's new hilux 2.0. Time for more mods

Postby 06lux on Fri, 24 Apr 2015 4:02 +0000

Bought some 100mm Cree led's of eBay. Rocked up today and they look awesome. Needed something to mount them to so I also bought a tradesman roll bar and ladder rack already powder coated in a matte black ripple texture.
Utes currently getting some electrical issues fixed up and the front suspension wound up to 3" to make way for the next project....... 305/70/16's  Unsure of what tyres yet. Probably km2's.
Also saving up for a front mount intercooler and s/s snorkel. Want to keep the temps down to start off with then next year she will be off to chase some more torque.

Going to make a rear bar when I have a weekend off. Can't see that being anytime soon, too many 21sts this year.

Can't wait
