Sounds a bit better! What was the 21L/100 in relation to then mate? Was that towing or just the worst you've had from it?

21/per 100 is normal everyday driving to work (well the wife driving to work and kids to school)
400+hp uses fuel no matter how you look at it
That's stock from hsv
The lower the rpm the more fuel it chews, then about 2500rpm and it goes up also
Hsv reckon 15.4 or somethings like per 100
Best fuel Eco I get is 130-140kph in 6th and average 9.8
100kph in 6th is about 15-16L where as 5th gear is 12-13L

No decision either way on doing another engine swap at this stage. I'd love to do a Duramax swap, but in reality it would be way too much work to fit in the reasonably small Hilux engine bay. An LS3 or even an LSA would be a more likely option but to be honest, the more I think about it, the more I think I just can't be bothered with another conversion... More thought required on this I think!

I finished of my front bar and ended up going hoopless for now. I like the look of it as it is although I might add a single 3" hoop and fit the lights I have. I've also fitted a dual battery setup and picked up a Kings awning.
Next job, build the rear bar.

I've done a bit of camping and a bit of off roading over the past few months and although it's still a little stiff in the rear end, it does seem to have loosened up a bit. Flex is ten times better than the old 99 model with the independent front and the benefits of this are obvious when driving it off road.
Safe to say I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

Looks amazing. Absolute monster truck. You may have mentioned previously, but why did u go with a patrol chassis over a landcruiser or 4x4 lux?

The Hilux chassis was never a contender. The 2JZ engine is too old to comply with the emission control regulations for the newer Hilux so swapping to an earlier model chassis overcame this problem as the vehicle is registered as a 99 Patrol not an 05 Hilux. Not only this but the Hilux suspension isn't great and fitting larger tyres presents problems with tyres rubbing on the wheel archs. The Hilux diffs are smaller and weaker too.
I considered both the Cruiser and the Patrol chassis before starting the conversion and opted for the Patrol for several reasons.
They have stronger diffs than Cruisers, especially the front, and better LSD's too. The factory Patrol LSD is quite good whereas the Toyota LSD, Criuser or Hilux are crap! The Patrol also has the rear diff in the center rather than offset like the Cruiser and this suited my gearbox/transfer case. The Patrol also has a number of factory diff ratios unlike the Cruiser which only have one or two options without swapping to after market gear sets.
At the end of the day, the Patrol chassis just made more sense!

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread! Awesome work there Web-eng and what a combination of possibly one of the best production engines of our generation the 2JZ with strong Patrol diff's!

However I was going to say "is there nothing you can make or do" ---- but mate you did not make the tyres :lol: all jokes aside so so much work there and so much problem solving mechanically to ECU etc just brilliant mate!

well done mate.. I didnt relise you were doing the 2jz conversion as well it was a plan of mine a couple years ago.. .. what a weapon.. would love to see it in the flesh.. just awesome engineering...

Been a while between updates on this build as I haven't done much to it since the last post. As mentioned previously, the 2jz, while having plenty of top end power is kind of suffering a bit down low and I'd been considering another engine swap. I've now made the decision to pull the 2jz out and fit a 6.2 litre LSA engine with a 6 speed auto transmission and a Patrol transfer case. For those not familiar with the LSA, it is the factory supercharged 6.2 litre V8 engine fitted to the HSV GTS Commodore. They produce 430Kw - 740Nm @ 3850rpm which should cure any low end power shortage!!!
The swap should be fairly straight forward requiring some new engine and gearbox mounts, exhaust, wiring, a bit of plumbing, and I'm going to fit late model Patrol tailshafts as the uni joints in them are huge compared to the Hilux uni joints.

Been a while since I’ve done an update on here so I figured I’d post a few pictures of what I’ve been up to.
After much contemplating the decision was made to go with LSA over the LS3 for a few reasons but the biggest reason of all was the fact that the LSA had the beefier transmission. The fact that it has 430Kw had absolutely nothing to do with it…… ;) :D

Given that I’d basically fitted all new everything for the A/C to suit the Supra engine I decided that it would be an idea to keep the Supra A/C compressor and all the new gear previously made to suit it. This meant machining some mounting brackets to fit the compressor to the LS engine block. The compressor is mounted where the alternator is normally located but I wanted to high mount it anyway so made the mounts for this at the same time.

I’m doing away with the Toyota Dyna gearbox and Hilux transfer case to fit the GM 6 speed auto transmission with a Patrol transfer case. I wasn’t sure if the Patrol speedo drive would talk to the Hilux speedo correctly or not so I’ve taken the Hilux speedo drive apart and modified it with a new housing extension and new shaft to suit the Patrol speedo drive gear and fitted it to the Patrol transfer case. Nothing more to do now other than to plug it back in to the stock Hilux wiring loom.

A Mark’s adaptor had the Patrol transfer case fitted up to the 6L90 transmission in no time and getting the engine in was pretty straight forward too. The first set of engine mounts I did for the Supra engine were almost in the perfect location and a simple modification to the gearbox cross member I made for the Toyota gearbox/transfer had the engine/trans bolted in.

The factory LSA sump was never going to fit and the usual solution when fitting an LS engine into a Patrol is a rear drop U.S. Truck sump. As the Hilux engine bay is so much shorter than the Patrol though, I had to mount the engine further forward that where it would normally sit in relation to the front axle. This meant that rather than the sump dropping down behind the steering arm it had to fit in between the diff housing and the steering arm which didn’t leave me much room to cut the sump down to fit within. I didn’t want to extend the sump pan down too low/deep for obvious reasons so the only place to gain capacity was out to the passenger’s side of the engine. Unfortunately this is where the oil filter and all of its related oil galleries are located on the LS engines. The easiest way around it was to make a new sump from scratch and relocate the oil filter further out to the side leaving as much space as possible to fit a narrow in length but wide sump pan. Made up a new oil pickup to suit and fitted it all back in place.

I took the springs out and let the front of the chassis sit down as low as possible to check on the clearance between the sump and the diff housing and steering shaft. Fairly tight!!!

A lot of extra work but it came up a treat and holds just on 7 litres.
I’ve also got a couple of tailshaft being modified and I’ve made a new gear lever for the Patrol transfer case.
On the down side, I now have a set of custom made tailshafts made using all brand new components to drive Patrol diffs from a Hilux gear drive transfer case. Done very little work.... :roll:
I'deal for anyone looking to do a SAS conversion :)
