Bob's new money magnet

Postby bob14hilux on Sat, 18 Oct 2014 12:27 +0000

Hi all,

I bought my new sr5 at the beginning of August and I have started doing a few things to it now. I just thought i would post a few pictures to help me keep a track of when I did what and how much money it is costing me.

The day I drove it home

Fresh bush pistripes 10/10/14 to 15/10/14 :D

Bullbar, winch, spotties and recovery point 17/10/14

Next on the list will be dual battery and water separator, then probably sliders and rear bar, then get the suspension sorted out.

I hope the modifications run out before the cash does.

Looking sweet! Any ideas on what suspension you're going to go with yet?

Gunna start doing a few things to mine now I've decided not to trade in again. Can I ask how much you paid for the ARB deluxe bar? Tossing up between ARB and TJM at the moment.

Pure speculation at this point in regards to the suspension, but I am leaning towards Ultimate.

The ARB bar cost $2133, plus $400 fitting, plus $36 for the fog light fitting brackets. $2569 in total.

Thanks, it is starting to look more 4x4 and less soccer mom.

This forum is a bad influence, I keep seeing things and thinking I want that. I will probably stop modifying it the day that I die.

Mines silver as well so to see all these great mods.
If you can post some more pics! Love to see your car with the bar at different angles.
Cheers,
Steff

Ok Steff, I will take some more photos tommorrow.

The provent kit with bracket and hoses came from western filters in blacktown, took about half hour to put in.

She's coming along nicely. You know you have a problem when the cost of mods is greater than purchase price of car. Cheers MONGO.

Bob

The Western Filters Provent kit - it specifies a minimum gap of 140mm from end of master cylinder to air filter housing. Mine has a gap of 120mm and Western Filters aren't a 100% sure that their bracket kit will fit. My vehicle is an MY12 2013 SR diesel.

BCH asked this question on the Provent thread but didn't get an answer.

What's the gap on yours? You've fitted it without problems I assume?

Hi hartster,
The gap on mine was just over the 140 mm. Mine fitted in the gap no problems. The gap that I measured is between the air box, and a hose coming out of the brake reservoir. There is a little bit of wiggle room in that 140 mm they say but I doubt that there would be 20 mm. I am not sure about the 2012, but in mine, 2014, there is about 50 mm extra under that hose I measured from to the end of the master cylinder. If you redrilled the bracket another 10 - 15 mm lower I would be able to use some of this space to fit the provent, but because the drain hose (from the provent) is very close to the guard, the provent would have to be put in on an angle to make this drain hose miss the guard. I am sure that the hoses supplied would be flexi enough to do this.

I hope that was clear enough to under stand. Here is a picture of where i was talking about.
Image

Good luck, I live not far from western filters so i was able to go there and physically hold the parts in place to see if they would fit before i bought it. Being in WA it would be a bit of a commute for you to do that. I believe that WF in blacktown get these brackets made up specially for them, maybe there is someone over there who does the same, or maybe you can make up a bracket to fit it elsewhere in the engine bay and buy the generic kit (provent and lengths of hose to cut to suit)

Thanks Bob, good clear instructions, photo is very helpful. I'll have another look at mine & compare.

I've put a photo and some notes on the compatibility of the Western Filters kit in the Provent thread.
