Alex's slowest build

Postby alexisdmtr on Wed, 10 Sep 2014 8:49 +0000

Hey guys.Just bought the hilux a few weeks ago.I saw your builds and I feel so jealous of your commitment to them.Anyways I thought to start a thread myself as I have quite a few thinga in mind for it.ITs my first lux but not the first 4x4 I had.Its going to take alot of time to get it where I want it but what the heck...:) so first thing went on Mountain top hard lid Image.
Yesterday I put on some 265/65/17 Coopers AT3 but still not made my mind on the wheels as I m thinking i want them with 0 offset.Image.
From the first day I got it I hated that metal piece of s$#@ that Toyota put on the rear so today off it go.Smart guys in Toyota welded one side so I had to cut and improvise on the spot.Since o was not gonna ever use or sell that piece I cut it in an angle so to create 2 tow points for rear since the metal was quite thick in my opinion. So for the moment no new tow points needed for me and improved the departure angle alot
Image.
Still waiting for the struts I ordered for the tailgate and hood and trying to make my mind for the suspension lift I want to put on.Good thing is that transformation has started ....:)

Nice start mate, interesting idea with the rear points you've added.
Cheers,
Jay

it doesnt look much since i didnt take my time with it (see my other best half was waiting for me to sit and have dinner as a family pfff :D ) .I could do a much nicer cut with the angle grinder but i can always fix that and some red paint and will look ok i reckon....as long as it will do its job

So yesterday I put a supposedly 2-2,5" lift from RAW.I liked how thicker the struts were from other brands.Front from rear height were at a difference of 90mm before and after the lift went in the front came up more than 100mm so I had to replace the rear shackles with taller ones to get the nose down.Thats an excessive amount of lift and wondering if I have to change cvs etc.Im going to put some pics on as soon as I get back home.Height was measured from ground to lower fender lip

Measure from the centre of the wheel to under side of the guard. Roughly 500mm is standard. Other options other than changing cvs mate.

Give it a few weeks to settle. The nose will drop further when you get to install your bar and winch later on

hi how is the clearance of your shackles to your tow point looks close in photo.

So I did a wheel alignment and now front sits about 45mm lower than rear which looks good.First impression on the RAWS is that they ride a bit tough compared to stock or OME which I had previously but it gives a nice stiff handling on road. Some quick pics I took just now.I definitely need some new wheels as they sit a lot inside.I am thinking 17x8 with less offset than stock as I want them sitting some 30mm more out.ImageImageImageImage

Hey dave.I hear what you saying but it has a few cms clearance from each other.I guess its the angle the foto was taken.

From the battery is best in my opinion and while your at it add a 12volt socket for a fridge or anything else you might need to power.

Look really good! Great job! How are they wired? Are they a kit or direct power from battery via a relay?

No they are single units with half a meter qire each.Connected them in series, through a push button switch, passed the wire under the body and through the engine bay with a heat resistant protector and on the battery.i used a simple fuse carrier next to the battery also with a 1A fuse.I gonna wire a couple of them in the engine bay too just in case I ever need some light in there

So yesterday I had some free time in hands and went ahead and installed the deezee gus strut for the tailgate.Took me an hour or so to put it on as I was sent the wrong strut. All went good though and works a treat.Image

Next I installed the wheel spacers I bought last week. They are 32mm made in england. They are the type with wheel' s bolt extensions so noway they ever come off.forgot to take a pic of them b4.Here is how it sits now Image
