haha nah mate theyre not cheap ones compared to others but you do get what you pay for. These ones come with a wiring kit and diagram on the instructions, fairly simple to do, but the wiring kit is suited for compressor in the bonnet. i extended the wiring harness and relocated fuse to be near the battery.

Hi Twento, nice setup. I have just replaced my old Toyota bar with an ARB winch bar and am wondering which bits are cut away under the guards when the Arb bar is fitted. The new bar reveals quite a few flimsy bits usually hidden by the old bulky one. Is there any chance you could post a couple of pics of the areas under the sides of the bar so that I can work out how much to cut out. I could let you know my email if that would be easier. I've tried searching for this specific topic on the forum but can't yet find exactly what I need.

im away at work untill next tuesday, if you can wait that long ill get in there and take some photos for you as ill be fitting bash plates anyway, i didnt fit the bar but im sure ill be able to work it out for you and let you know

I bought an air locker. Wanted the compressor anyway so seemed pretty straight forward.

sweet, yeah mate i do week on week off, back to work tomorrow though.

i was looking at the eaton locker, just not keen on air fittings and what not being a mechanic myself, air systems can blow me haha! but we'll see ;)

A quick little update,

had installed a twin power socket in the tub and whilist doing so i decided to pull the dual battery system out and tidy up some wiring, relocated the relays and installed a fuse box, using the dual battery bracket where the arb battery tray is suited for the redarc isolator i used that to mount the relays and fuse box. Think i dont alright, what do you guys reckon?

Went for a drive with a few guys yesterday down to Brunswick/Harvey south of Perth.

Was a good day, bit of river crossing, mud hills, tight tracks, and recoveries. Day got cut a bit short after a 2.8 patrol shredded its engine fan and peirced the radiator. few quick temporary fixes and limped it home. Hilux went superb all day.

Went out for another adventure today, ended up winching for hours but it was definitely worth!

Need to invest in a winch and at lest one locker! time to start researching! Any recommendations guys?

Haha yeah I'm aware of arbs deal at the moment, although I think a winch is first on the list, at least I can self recover. Still not sure weather to go arbs air lockers or the e-locker.

Idd go for in this order
2-3" lift and some good tyres,
Idd go for a front locker first (as rear has lsd)
after that add a rear locker or winch,

I have lsd front and rear and a winch, and the only time I seem to use my winch is for remiving trees the last time I used it I crushed and pulled down my old sheed,

Most of the time I go out its with others and we will just snatch or tow out other, most of us have winches,
When you dont have one you need it and when you do you hate using it,
The only real need I've found for it is on some of the real step hill, I pre connect it and away I go

If you plan to go out on your own a bit its then a must! But with others it can go down the list a bit

Very nice build by the way
If you do plane on get air lockers, you may wish to relocate the compressed or fit a tank(don't fit tank behind seat) to stop the compressed turning on and off all the time,
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

I've got the 2" lift and good mud tyres

I do have a plan of quite a bit of touring with a fair bit of tricky 4wding thrown in so I was thinking of winch first as probably won't use lockers while touring and if I got stuck then the winch is there.

As for the air tank I Havnt looked into yet as I wasn't planning on lockers, may look
Into e-lockers more but I do believe there a fair bit more pricey too

Don't personal knob anyone with elocker,
Each has pros and cons, just witch one has more pros for you is the one idd pick,
For me arb air lock is air is tryed tested and well proven, + cheaper so that's the root idd take,

As for winches I'm starting to see a lot ryder winches, as there around 500 for a 12000,
And they seem to last

did a 9 week mapping trip, full off road for a large part of it.... in a N/A 100 series mind you, but had winch and air lockers.... never touched the winch.... air lockers got us out of (and through) everything without ever having to leave the vehicle :mrgreen:

My personal experience is that lockers are more flexible for getting out troubling situations as you are able to get around things and follow a non linear path... plus there's not always a tree to winch onto or soft sand to dig into. I didn't have to do mud for this situation mind you, I think for mud a winch can be handy... lockers can't overcome everything.... unless it's dry :lol:

Good on you for testing your Lux out. Did you suffer any panel damage when the rear glanced that bank (photo 2 above in the trail blazing series)? Cheers MONGO.
