The Ultra-Luxe

Well I said hello and put some of this info in my intro but I'm loving reading these member buildup's so I'm gonna start one.

About 3 months ago I picked up my 06 extra cab Hilux with 200,000 K's on the clock. All pretty straight apart from a ding under the passenger door. Picked it up for a steal and the dealer was also an ironman agent who did me a great deal on a snorkel and bull bar.

Flew to Melbourne and picked it up. Drove it back and on the way from Vic yo QLD had a tyre bubble, so as soon as I got back new shoes were in order. I kept the 15x7 white sunnies and wrapped them with 235/75 R15 Kelly Safari TSR tyres. I went close to stockish on the size to get through roadworthy.

Now for the fun stuff. Firstly took it to a trusted mechanic to fit up the bull bar and snorkel (pic). Following that I wired up the 240W 42" LED light bar on the head board and installed a GME TX3400 UHF with a 9db aerial. I also have a 4.5db for running around town. Also fitted a rhino toolbox to the tray for a little tool space.

Next up some lighting, meet 2x 5" LED pods and 2x 7" HID spotlights for the bull bar. It is bloody close to daylight in front of my car now.

Moving to the interior, now have put in some fusion 6.5" speakers in the rear using the factory wires. Upgraded the front speakers to Kenwood and next on the list is a slimline sub install under the rear seats and a new head unit.

Black duck canvas seat covers and RM Williams deep dish bucket matts provide some protection from the nasty stuff we 4WDers get covered in.

In the near future I'm having some sidestep/sliders and side rails made as well as some new suspension components to replace the sagged ones I currently have. A dual battery is also high on my list of priorities as I just today purchased an Ironman fridge freezer for the rear seat. Also I'm going to redo the tray as the foam board looks crapola.

Thanks for reading

Cheers

I like them, if I had my time over I might have bought the spots rather than the floods to try get a bit more distance but as is they provide a really good light spill on the side of the road as roo spotters.

ONBAGZ your right and down the track I might but my bank account just won't let me. I'll probably buy a pair of the same model in spots and then use the floods as work lights.

Great start to the build mate ;) . Color is plum if I'm not mistaken. There's another xcab in the same color floating around the builds. Sliders are a good idea, looks as though the current ones came pre-dented

So everyone gave the Ultra a clean out after its beach trip and she's looking tops, had a look at fitting in some tie down points for a fridge and I'm pretty keen to get them in. The base of the tray is really starting to pi$$ me off, its the thing really letting my truck down at the moment. What are peoples thoughts on the deck of a light steel tray. Diamond plate (steel or aluminium)? Timber? Board? I'm not sure which way to go.

The tray does rattle a little but only on lots of movement. It doesn't rattle normally. I went with an FJ Cruiser, a 75 series tray back cruiser and a decked out 4.8 patrol. I went everywhere they did, did not look like getting stuck once. It performed so well, didn't touch low range. Love this ute.

Just finished yesterday installing some tie down points in the back of the cab to hold down the fridge will take some photos this afternoon.

Yeah I was so surprised in 4WD high range 1st gear really was low enough to take off in the sand and get up enough momentum to keep it moving.

After pricing what a steel deck would cost me... I'm going with timber, I'm thinking some 90mm merbau shot edge with the corrugated side down. Should look good I reckon.

Few more little things, yesterday got the tie down points finished for the fridge, super happy with how they turned out.

I reach straight through the rear window after undoing the bolts on the spring hinge and letting it pivot on the latch you'd normally use to open it.

Also found an 8 dollar solution to lighting my toolbox up. Dot it push LED light from Bunnings stick on, removable and plenty of light.

I was having a bit of a daydream as well and found the official artwork for the Ultra Luxe from Fallout New Vegas

I'm thinking about having it made up in a reflective gold vinyl for the door or just the shield for the rear windows.
