Testing the stock suspension

Postby jaydo on Mon, 18 Aug 2014 4:13 +0000

Its been a bit over a month now and she's all fully paid off now so its time to start with the modifications! A few basic things first. Ditching the side steps makes a massive difference to the look.

Took it out to Glasshouse two weekends ago. Here are a few photos and videos of the stock suspension and tyres. The stock bash plate underneath also had a fair working out. Nothing serious though, was just soft stuff! Still looking tiny next to all my friends and family's set up rigs!

Style side tub fitted

Postby jaydo on Mon, 18 Aug 2014 4:17 +0000

Here's where the fun begins!
This weekend I went out and bought myself a styleside tub. Got it all tied down, bought it home and ready to get fitted. $550 for all the SR5 tub + all extras! This is where it stands until I get a chance to put it on and get myself some flares for the front.

Image

Spent the weekend putting the tub onto the car. Not too many hiccups. The fuel filler sits a little odd inside coming from a tray, but its still easy enough to open and close. Makes the rake a lot more noticeable now, but hopefully i'm not too far away from the MR lift. Had to get an auto electrician to wire up all my lights. The ones off my old tray and the ones in the new tub were everywhere and none of the colours matched up.

Only thing left to do is run the fuel cap cable back through the car and hook it up inside the cab.

I also picked up some front flares for a pretty good price. Still need to get the front bumper flares or hurry up and get a bullbar because it looks a little odd. Money is on the car before it even hits my bank account!

Re: Jaydo's SR Dual Cab Build - MR Lift Installed

Postby jaydo on Sat, 01 Nov 2014 9:50 +0000

Been a little bit but its finally all here and installed. Bit of D.I.Y on the Monster Rides kit. Heres what I got:

Monster Rides front coilovers 2.5"
Swaybar relocator
Monster Rides shockies
Dobsinsons 2" rear heavy duty springs
Greaseable shackles

Took about 12 hours to put it all in and get it all adjusted properly. The time consumption came with the installation of the coilovers. First one took about 4-5 hours to put it in, but once we worked out a few little tricks, we had the second one in in about 1.5-2 hours.

Leaf springs were a breeze. Had the two changed out and new ones in within 2 hours.

Re: Jaydo's SR Dual Cab - New 32" Shoes

Postby jaydo on Sat, 01 Nov 2014 9:59 +0000

Went down to fourbies straight after I finished the lift and they sorted me out with some new tyres for the car.
After a bit of looking around on this website for sizes and offsets I ended up going with 16x8 sunnies with +7 offset.
Wrapped around that I have some brand new Mickey Thompson MTZ's 265/75/16.

I have no rubbing at all, even on full lock. Yet to try it off road but can't wait! Being an SR, with the offset I went with I also had to go out and buy some flares for over the wheel arch because there was about 1" worth of tyre poking out passed the guard. Now with the flares on the side wall sits almost flush with the flares. Next thing to do is grab a bullbar.

Buds Bash Plates installed and bullbar ordered

Postby jaydo on Thu, 06 Nov 2014 5:48 +0000

Finally got around to installing the bashplates that I ordered with my lift. Was just a bit slow putting them on. Straight from buds. No dramas bolting them in.

Also ordered Buds loopless slimline bar. Been backwards and forwards about 3 loops, 1 loop or no loops; tossing between all different bars. Went with no loops in the end and put a deposit down to stop the mental torture I kept giving myself. Approximate time of arrival of the bar is 10 weeks. Can't wait!

While I was down there I decided to make the new sunnies look a bit nicer. Nothing a can of black paint can't fix! took about 10 mins, waited for the paint to dry and then they clip straight on.

Thanks mate. Slowly getting there!
Just the standard SR5 ones I believe. Bought them second hand and that's what I was told they were.

Heres a link to the loopless bar on here!

I was in there talking to him today, he said its like $100 more and it doesn't poke out quite as far as the standard one. This was the one he showed me:

Also if the guy who owns this bar is on here - sick rig haha!

Christening the new suspension/tyres - Glasshouse

Postby jaydo on Mon, 17 Nov 2014 7:53 +0000

Headed back out to Glasshouse this weekend - the hilux's second time out there, this time with the 32's and suspension done. First time offroad since it had all been done. Couldn't be any happier with how it all performed.

Still waiting on buds bar and sliders. Gonna make it look a lot different once they go on!

Holidays and more camping/4x4

Postby jaydo on Wed, 14 Jan 2015 8:01 +0000

Still haven't had the money to add any more mods to the car over the Christmas break. Been too busy spending money on holidays and camping. Hopefully will be getting my bullbar within the next 1-2 weeks, just waiting to hear from buds customs. Can't wait!

Purchased a UHF over christmas, had enough of the walkie talkies, but i'm waiting to buy a roof console and will mount it in there hopefully on my next pay!

In the mean time, a few friends and family spent our holidays up at double island and then went out to Lanccruiser park. Great way to finish off the holidays!

Yeah, I haven't bothered with it because I'm still waiting on my bullbar and I'll just throw the bumper out once I get the bar. Hopefully its not too far away!

Jaydos Lux - A few cosmetics

Postby jaydo on Sat, 07 Mar 2015 2:48 +0000

Been a little while since I've added anything to this post. Was busy over christmas and new years and have only just started spending money on the car again. Few little cosmetics to add. I have ordered myself a set of those angel lights from Matty and they will be arriving sometime next week.

Still waiting on my bullbar from Buds. Has to be getting close now! Will be well worth the wait when its here.

I just received my neoprene seat covers and bonnet protector and I think they look the part!

I'm interested too. I have Toyota neoprene covers in the front, but nothing on the back seat.
