Current weather in the cape could make for interesting times though! But I don’t leave until June, and plan to get to the cape after school holidays

Ozbush manual mapper installed along with the additional water fuel separator filter. Car certainly runs better with the manual mapper. I think she is nearly ready for the cape.

Well after 700kms I can say the rattle has significantly reduced by around 80%, still present at times but not over the same rev range 1800-2300 , only hear it briefly right at 2000 rpm when you back off the accelerator and it is no where near as noisey, the wife still thinks I’m hearing things but yeah I’m happy [emoji2]. Not a single issue with the lux with the Ozbush manual mapper on it have not played with the fuel trim yet it is still set at 0.

Good news about the rattle, might look into this myself then. Looks like a great start to the trip, that’s up Jurien way? I was there at Easter.

Stayed at Apex Holiday Park, we had plenty of space around us cos we set up on a bit of ground between caravan sites that were booked but didn’t show up. I didn’t mind it but the Mrs was a bit underwhelmed.

Ok so we are 11000 kms into our around Oz trip, just returned from the Cape and what an awesome place! Had a absolutely blast and i would go back up there tomorrow if i could. towed the camper through the OTT without to causing much damage too besides splitting the water tank (before we got to the OTT)

So back to the start of the trip- day one on the road leaving Perth and i get the dreaded engine light and bam im in limp mode, reset the fault P1251 code....

So i unplugged the Ozbush manual mapper.... day 2 just over taken a road train and bam limp mode same fault, reset. Diagnosis is its not the manual mapper.

Anyways we get up past Port Hedland and it has tripped every day atleast once.... so i make a call to Broome toyota, the service manager Chris was great and we eliminated a few potential issues and he says to bring it in and he will run a scan on it the following day. Last test was to unplug the DP chip - now it trips more regularly......? It seems the DP chip gave the ecu more tolerance and prevented it from tripping more often than not, interesting to not that without the camper in the back it would not trip at all....?

Ok so Chris the service manager at Broome toyota does a scan and we run through some causes, seems to be the stepper motor. Anyways long story short my bro inlaw in Cairns just so happened to have one in his shed, so he airbagged this to Darwin, I replaced the unit and yes it has now not missed a beat! I managed to pick up another low km Stepper motor still attached to a turbo as a spare whilst in Darwin.

Now currently in Cairns carrying out some repairs and servicing after the Cape trip before we head down the east coast, got a new set of BFGoodrich ats yesterday for a good price too. The Nittos got me to cape and back but 2 got scrubbed out in the inside due to kncoking the wheel alignemnt out and they were almost dead after only 35k anyways.

Bit of a bigger but all part of the adventure!! That beach looks pristine!
Glad to hear it wasn’t the mapper!
How do you think it’s affecting average fuel usage.
I was floating around 13-13.2 litres/100 now I’m up to nearly 14. Only thing that’s changed is the mapper, could very well be something else, keen to see what you think.

Fuel is averaging around 15L per 100 but thats towing my 1.7t camper.
I didn’t really notice a change when I installed the mapper, what fuel trim setting are you using?
I have gone to plus 5 seems to like it there.

Bloody stepper motor faulted again, it was a second hand one and so i am currently sitting at my folks house in north coast NSW - Iluka , have to drop the camper off here and shoot back up to the sunny coast to see my daughter for a few days, will then continue down south from here.
Bought a brand new stepper motor and am awaiting delivery, have had some time to address a few other minor issues whilst i am here waiting also get some time to fish [emoji4].

List of broken items from the trip to the cape:
Snapped 2 way arial
Broken LH front bullbar indicator light, rattled loose and i ran over the lens cover
Scrubbed out front tyres alignment was 4.7mm out, toe in.
Split the camper trailers stainless steel water tank and destroyed the internal baffle - unfortunately a common thing with these campers.

Got off pretty lightly considering what we travelled through!.

Back In cairns i ended up buying a set of BFG KO2 ATs to get me home on and I installed a set of Airbag man air bags in the rear end just to support the back end a bit whilst towing. Camper water tank was repaired and new tank ends pressed up to avoid failures in the future!

I ended up installing the new stepper motor, all was good for a few weeks, then 3 days ago it faulted again! And has done 2 times since, i cant pick it its so intermittent. I am in mt gambier now and i bought a new turbo control module in the hope this fixes it. Seriously considering moving it on and getting a ranger [emoji33]

Well the trip come to an early end Tuesday night, the hilux lost power cruising up a hill and seems to be running on only a couple of cylinders and lots of white smoke and i was only 150kms from home, after getting it towed and having my brother inlaw collect the trailer we got home at 4am. Strange as it never faulted or tripped all day, i was experiencing a loss in turbo pressure a few days prior but it was running really well, the only issue i noticed was the EGTs were running about 60-80 degs higher that day than normal.

Went out yesterday and have bought a ranger. The hilux goes to a workshop friday to see what the damage is, hopefully a cheap fix then she is up for sale. She had a good run and served me well but its time to move on to something more capable of towing and also an automatic as im getting sick of changing gears lol

I have a Ozbush Manual mapper for sale if anyone is interested? Removing it from the vehicle before i sell it.

Sorry to hear man! At least you didn’t need recovering from up the Cape I spose.
Was interested in the fuel mapper but after reading through the website I don’t think I’d be comfortable putting it on my 200k old donk. I think there’s a kind of balance happening in a wearing engine that I don’t want to mess with, if that makes sense.
He does have a page on the P1251 code that may be too late to be useful for you, but perhaps for anyone else reading this: http://ozbushelectronics.com.au/attachm ... Device.pdf

Build plans for the FRanger?
