Rockets New Build - Power Up

Postby Rocket55 on Fri, 21 Feb 2014 5:00 +0000

I've had a search and couldn't find the exact answer to my questions so I thought I'd start a new topic

As some of you know I had to sell my beloved weapon of a Hilux (viewtopic.php?f=41&t=11378) to fund some landscaping of my back yard. In the interim I've picked up a zippy little Mazda 2, you may have noticed it on my avitar.

Image

First mod I did was too put some 20% window tint on it! I figured this this will give me some street cred and help with fuel economy. Then in the quest for more performance I installed a full set of V8 Supercar team identification numbers and signage. They tell me this is good for at least 10Kw at the wheels.

Image

I've installed a pumping stereo and UHF and can now take on some pretty fast cars and tackle medium to difficult tracks. I've been pretty happy with my Mazda and it's taken me to some great places.

Just recently, in a proposed trip thread, some of the members suggested (despite my extensive mods to date) I might need some larger tyres and maybe some sliders and under body protection to attempt some of the proposed tracks.

I thought long and hard about this and figured a few more mods wouldn't go astray, surely a snorkel and a set of roof racks will see me tackle these double diamond tracks :D little did I know, ARB and TJM don't stock snorkels for a Mazda 2, so in true DIY fashion I decided to make my own. I quite enjoyed doing this and came to like the sense of achievement of creating something from nothing, so long storey short and a couple of late nights in the garage, my mighty Mazda 2 is Now sporting 33's, SAS'd and twin locked

Now where are these tracks you speak of

No my friend, in order to turn the engine from east-west to north-south to get the transfer case in, I had to move the firewall back along with the windscreen and dash, this forced me into a quarter door chop which didn't go so well, so I just ditched the rear doors and made it a 2 door 8-)

I'm a bit worried about the warranty, do you think Mazda will still cover it with warranty?

Well, after building up my Hilux and then the depression of watching it drive away, I needed a new project. Had some fun with the Mighty 2, and it's still a great weapon, but here is my more serious long term project. I know its not a Hilux, but I know a couple of the moderators on here and hopefully they'll let me post my build up without deleting it ;)

Well here it is

It's a clean 2010 ST CRD 3.0L with 48,000km on it, running 33's A/T's dual batteries, heaps of power outlets and a UHF. :? Oh I forgot, and window tint... that'll make the difference in getting over that obstacle. 8-) Bit of work to do here :?
Looking forward to putting, bar work, winch, 3-4" lift, 35-36's, locker(s), chip, exhaust etc. All the usual things
Cheers Rod

Yeah, it would be nice if they had a Duramax in them... The CRD ZD30 are streets ahead of the early DI ones..... I hope ;)
