So I checked the fuse, there's a marking on one side of the fuse wire, the other side is clean, and it's still all in tacked. I take it that mark is burnt... :?
I guess I go back to AutoBarn when I get a chance

 It was, I think I may have had something mis-wired when I went to test it... :? Gonna go over it with a fine comb next weekend and try one last time. Really out of my comfort zone with electricals.

Jay

Its all good , dont feel like its out of your comfort zone. You have to learn some how, and the best way is a with fuse blowing .
Iv set a dash on fire due to the old owners wiring at it arching by chance. scared the crap out of me casue the car wasnt insured.

You can still blow fuses with the battery disconnected, some power remains in the onboard amp in head decks and some ECU's.

Your amp will almost certainly have a fuse on it somewhere also, make sure you check everywhere for fuses...

Geesus, I woulda shit bricks. Any tips to prevent that (besides shitloads of electrical tape), the last thing I want is me sprinting for a fire extuinguiser

Martin - you're right, there's two in the amp aswell.
Might give it another quick go over the weekend if I get time.
Cheers,
Jay

The old owner didnt have the line fused , just direct to the battery  . Also the insulation was falling off. As soon as i started to pull the dash apart BOOM! . The cable just sliced through anything plastic.
lucky it only did part of the AC ducting and dash.

Youll be rite if you put a small amount of effort in. Heat shrink , tape and new cables. always replace with new.

I hope you didn't cop the blame or get in trouble for it. I wouldn't know how to go back to the customer about that..

So, after another try and replacing the fuse, and some help from guys on this forum. It all works a treat!

Apparently the "RCA converter" was a waste of money, and the fusion sub came with a high-input frequency plug that you wired into the speakers anyway if you didn't have RCA inputs. Which did work, and the RCA converters didn't. :?

Sounds good, the odd song isn't as good quality, but 98% are perfect. :D

...now what to do next.. early christmas present for the hilux?

Jay

It was on my Rx7, the old owner just cut corners on alot of things as you find out when buying second hand.

Glad to hear its all sorted and its up and running.

Buy an Audison bit-ten to tune everything, if you realy like your music.

Ouch.. just what you want after getting a car.

Just looked up the AUdison bit-ten quickly before leaving the house earlier, didn't get too much of a read, but from what I did read it looks pretty sweet.
Might look at getting one after I upgrade the speakers and head-unit I think, it's just trying to prioritise money.. :?

You're not supposed to be adding to the shopping list either... !

Jay

Bit of an update.

MR scoop is currently getting painted. Should be ready tomorrow, if not I told him i'll grab it at the start of Jan.
See how I go.. got too much to do tomorrow anyway I think.

Santa came early:

Ended up ordering Ultimate 2" suspension lift. It looks gooooood!
Going to fit it in tomorrow with the help of a mate. Hopefully nothing breaks!

Was originally going to get Desert Fox foam cells with dobinson coils, but I couldn't find too much reviews on them and figured if something went wrong, there wasn't really any warranty or support to go with them. Was then leading towards Tough Dog suspension, and then I seen everyone posting up pictures of them breaking and collapsing under pressure... figured i'm better off spending a little extra and getting it right the first time round. Would love to have MR recon kit, but it was just too much for me.

Excited as to see how well Ultimate handles and looks on my lux

Hopefully i'll have enough in my budget to get my new wheels soon too. Looking to get 15x8 sunraysia wheels with 32" Cooper St Maxx's. Going to have to slow the build down after than though I think..
Cheers,
Jay
