Pootrols hilux

Postby pootrol on Sun, 16 Jun 2013 10:00 +0000

Got it new in 09. Needed canopy for work and it worked well. Got sick of changing between road tires to play tires so got cooper stt for every day. Onto my second set now and luv em. Just ran 2" spacers at the start but at 60k put in the ironman 2" kit and I'm upto 160k now so I've got 100k out of the kit and for the dollar I can't complain. The valving has gone in the shocks but you can't tell really. The kit needs to survive to mid next year so I can have new susp for a cape York trip.

picked up a arb bull bar for 300 bucks with no mounts. built my own mounts and eventually built in a winch cradle for the 9500 ironman.

this pic is where it sat after I found out the hand brake doesn't work after a 1hr session getting winched to the top of a clay based hill. it took off backward hit a tree root, spun sideways and into a tree. the tree tipped over pulling the root base up and chocked the rear wheel. bit of rear damage but could of been worse.

draw is removable so I can interchange it between work and camping gear with second draw.

get off road when I can . mainly lcmp, double island, bribie and fraser. more about adventure with the tinnie than the bash and crash stuff I guess. but if I do get to cruiser or glass house which is behind me I still like to test it out.

canopy is pure function first with its height as I want to fit 2x dishwashers, or 2x ovens or 2 small acs plus all my usual gear with out removing stuff if needed. I went a bit on the narrow side as I don't want to worry about damage when in tight spots. if the cab gets through the canopy will too. it has the weaco 35 mounted in for every day use but when I go camping I use that as the freezer and use the weaco 60 for grog. the later pics show how my custom bull bar mounts held up after I tee boned a ford in the city not long ago. didn't get much chance to stop but I think I got to 40klm before impact. bull bar moved a tiny bit but I was sore the next day. the ford was a write off. teach him for messing with a lux..

But my fav is the one with the motor bike sticking out. Whats the rig with the pin stripes? Do you race it?

I found the tailgate thing amusing cos the amount of times I got pulled over for breathos and even speeding no one ever said nothing about the fact no one can see my number plate. The pin stipe thing was just one of many little cars I did up just to sell on. I wanted to take it to lakeside sprint day but it sold just before. I had another buzz box I took out there instead and thrashed it to death. Bought it home and sold it. :D

Cheers Scotsman, just got to do the rear pull out draw one day. Not sure what ill do with one yet so I'm not in a rush. I've been thinking lately that a coil rear is on the cards like yours soon. ;)

the need to change the front diff oil has spurred me into completing my bash plate. the original was bashed to hell and I had this laying around. just need to grind it up then paint it. might powder coat. depends if I have enough patience.

next thing is to finally get something done with some solar. couldn't stomach 400 for a panel or even what jaycar quoted me today was 780 with controller. the controller is a cheapie so ill see how it goes.

Image

went into my wholesaler and got a house hold 250w panel for $200 . its built to withstand hail damage and to live on a house roofs so physically I cant see any probs apart from it being clumsy. its only for camping and ill stick it on the roof rack. work days it comes off and the ladders goes back on. just been taking it with me for a few days now to see how it does perform and im happy.
