The rims were on the ute when I bought it 2nd hand. I think they are speedy brand rims, but I'll have a look tomorrow to make sure.

Re: andy666 build up - Sound Proofing

Postby andy666 on Sun, 02 Feb 2014 2:55 +0000

Well, my BFG M/T have been getting louder and louder over the last year, to the point that they are unbearable at 100km/h. But instead of new tyres I decided to install some sound proofing (or deadening) in the cab. I can't justify the $$$ for dynamat, so instead I went the getto option and used bitumen flashing from Bunnings ;)
For $100 I got enough to cover the rear wall, side walls and doors (plus a bit left over).
I know that it's not the most complete coverage and that the dynamat may do a better job, but I'm happy.
It has greatly reduced the road noise. Before at 100km I had to have the radio volume on at least 30. Now I'm down to 20. :D

Are you getting any bitumen smell ?

Nope, none at all.
Put half in yesterday, then ute sat closed up (in the sun) until lunch today and no smell. I had more smell when I did the cavity wax in the doors.

Hi mate, I see carpet in your cab but it looks like a SR. Did you install the carpet?

Yeah it's an sr, the carpet was in when I got it (2nd hand). I'm guessing the original owner got the carpet as an optional extra. Glad they did, I'm not a fan of vinyl floors.

Actually, I owe a big thanks to the original owner, they added a heap of good gear to the vehicle, really looked after it and got rid of it for a very cheap price. It's a nice change actually, usually I'm the one adding thousands of dollars of extras to my vehicles and selling them for peanuts.

Never noticed your build before. Top effort mate. Love the insulation idea, might have to borrow that one. How does it come from Bunnings? On a roll?

Yeah, comes in 10m rolls of different widths from 50mm up to 300mm.
I used a 100mm and 150mm wide rolls.

The more I drive it the more I realise how much quieter it is.

Re: andy666 build up - Winch Camouflage

Postby andy666 on Fri, 14 Feb 2014 4:46 +0000

I've got a runva 11xp winch, which is great, but since putting the orange protective sleeve on the rope it stands out a bit and I don't want it drawing the attention of the wrong people (those with sticky fingers). So I thought I would camouflage it.
Replaced the orange protective sleeve with a new black one, sprayed the fairlead satin black and run the rope into the bumper rather then down to the recovery point. The control box I have always had mounted inside the bulbar, because of the light bar.
I recon the camouflage has worked great and hides the winch well.

Edit: Better photo of the camouflaged winch.

Cheers mate. It's marine canvas, rather then the shiny vinyl that a lot of uphoilsterers use. Textured top and cloth backing. No shrinkage, uv stable and doesn't sweat.

Haha, I just had another look at those pics of the winch and i can hardly see it in the 2nd pic. Looking closely and can just see the rope running across the bottom corner of the number plate :D

Denso snorkel fitted. Very high quality bit of kit and for only $70 more then a safari, it is definitely work the extra.

Re: andy666 build up - denso snorkle and bonnet scoop

Postby andy666 on Fri, 28 Feb 2014 5:07 +0000

Fitted my bonnet scoop. Very happy.
I improved it a bit before fitting though. Smoother out the joints just inside the mouth opening with some body filler and made some stainless steel studs, instead of the supplied bolts that'll rust.
The ute defiantly has a little more poke over 70kmh. Can't say if its the snorkel or the scoop that made the biggest difference, as there was only a few days between fitting them and I only drove around town in that time.
